Recently converted my own and my sister's bike to tubeless. I was in the same boat as you, never having done it before and and not wanting to f*** things up. In retrospect it was very easy, just make sure you have a compressor or one of those Schwalbe/Topeak/etc. pressure canisters at hand if your tire doesn't want to seat with a normal track pump. I'm only three weeks in and already can't imagine going back to tubes. ;-)
Edit: Most important thing is that you check if the tire seats correctly before putting sealant in, otherwise you might be in for a big mess.
