Parkrun earlier, thought I'd try a bit of post (hopefully, still waiting for a relapse) long COVID effort at a fast run to see where I am. Been back running regularly for a few weeks after what feels like forever of being very careful not to overdo it and feeling a bit fitter but I'm aware I'm a long way off where I was this time last year... Only two mins slower than my course PB and I didn't try to get near the front for the start so was working my way through the crowds and bottleneck for the first half mile or so. Quite reassuring!
Was passing people for pretty much the whole 5k and fairly even pacing too. Progress feels good man! -

^ great progress from long covid.
I broke 1h21m for half marathon this morning. Hasn't sunk in yet.

That must feel amazing if you’ve been dealing with long Covid. Well done.

Haha, that’s so fast. Nice one.

First interval session for a couple of year (since knee cartridge problems).
Planning 8x800 and managed 7x400
Still feel broken 6 hours later.

I went to Run and Become by Victoria station, recommended to me by a friend who runs a lot and I was happy with the service.
Seemed very knowledgeable on which brands would fit my feet best and also seemed to know what level of support/cushioning I needed.

Absolutely flying!
Also had a HM achievement this weekend. Managed to run 13.1 on Saturday - longest run post injury and probably pushing it a bit, but feels like I’m starting to be able to get back to it in an actually meaningful way now. Still can’t run fast, but at least my leg can take a bit of plodding

Nice one. I’m on 1:20:37 at the moment. Definitely feel I should be eyeing up sub 80. I had a Big Half spot last weekend but was signed up for Knokke 70.3 today so passed the place to a mate.
Ran 1:24 off the bike for the 3rd time in a row, so I figure that I should be able to find the time when fresh -

Yeah feels good. I'm lucky I didn't get it as bad as some but before Xmas I would struggle with 2 miles at a VERY gentle pace. No energy. Everything ached for days after. Constant brain fog, tiredness, muscle and joint aches... Deferred my place for VLM to next year so that's the target, just to get around, no time target, just to be able to cover the distance will be a massive milestone.

Ah that’s great news. I had long Covid for a year and just couldn’t get fit at all. Just knackered, daily headaches (after never having them my whole adult life), started to lose my mind a bit. Fingers crossed this is it done and dusted for you!

Thanks all, it suggests sub 3 might be closer to being in reach now, Garmin predictor is positive about it.
@Nef glad you're getting back on it.
@duncs one of my first thoughts was a sub 1h20 attempt, it'll have to wait though I think as Abingdon the bigger goal. Your 1h24's off the bike suggest sub 1h20 should come, enjoy!

What do you do training wise? I'm an utter novice and have got myself to running 6 days a week consistently since doing c25k in January and now it seems to be time to add some intensity.

Yeah, road or trail?

both are of interest. just trying to get back into regular runs, not planning much more than that due to knee issues but i could do with trying different shapes on not too battered shoes.

Will take stock and send you a PM & pics when home later. Currently on a running break due to knee issues 😃

https://strava.app.link/T9JRhDMoKMb gives an overview, I rely heavily on HRM and mostly run to effort not time pace. Recent stuff is all Marathon focused. There's not much intensity and there's lots of gains to be got from consistency in steady miles alone if boredom is manageable.
It can be hard (for me at least) to shape training specifically & get out there consistently without a goal. Do you have races lined up, or looking to improve 5km time at Parkrun etc.

Accidental runner after starting Dry January led to running and quitting smoking. Goals were just to run more but recently the lure of the sub 20 min 5k has reared it's ugly head. I'm still really unfit aerobically so I think the daily hour at differing intensities will work for a good while (as per your thoughts).
Strava link not working for me. I'll DM my profile. -

Update on toe: Seems to be mostly better, so I'm assuming I sprained it?!
Best shop in London for gait analysis/shoe recommendation? Lots of them offer it but I'm presuming some do it better than others.
