what phono stage are you using?
if you decided against repairing the Shure, some things to consider:
Dynavetcor 10x mk5 - I had a 4, one of the nicest carts i've used. high output MC (above your budget though but if you feel like pushing the boat out);
Ortofon 2M Black - I've always wanted to try one of these so please get one and then convince me i need one ;-) MM, again, over budget;
Goldring 1042 - I had a Reson modified version of this (or similar?) Goldring cartridge which was really nice, and it's almost in budget.

I have a Shure V15V-MR Cartridge which is very highly regarded and NLA. Today whilst trying to clear it of dust I broke the cantilever. Gutted. An aftermarket replacement stylus is £300, but that’s also the price of some nice complete MM cartridges. What would you do? We’re talking about some higher end Audio Technica, Grado, Nagaioka etc. lots of choice at that price.
