Anyone on here use CHIP, used them when they first started but moved away due to limited functionality. Was thinking of moving back, but wanted to see if they include rounds- up from other accounts as part of their savings options. Couldn't see anything on the help section and tried reaching out but the bot wants a ton of details from me for just a simple questions. So thought I'd used the hive mind instead.

Anyone know much about booking a loss to offset tax? I have a couple of investments in shares not in isas which have tanked eg Deliveroo if I sell these in this financial year am I able to offset the loss ?
-
• #4479
Yes. I've not done it for years (since the dot com era!) but I recall that you just fill it all in on the Capital Gains section of your tax return and you can net off losses against any gains on selling other stuff that has fared better - but not against income from working, interest, etc.
I believe that you can carry the losses forward for a year or two if you have been particularly unlucky...

Offset the loss against what? These sound like capital losses so are you looking to offset against capital gains or income? (The latter isn't usually possible)

Yes to offset against CGT
I’ve maxed out my cgt allowance so looking at ways to increase it

why is it so difficult to reinvest a Nationwide cash ISA? As far as I can tell, it is only possible by letter or in branch. WTF?
-
• #4483
From recent experience it’s a real pain, perhaps a small price to pay to keep branches open on the high street?

Not exactly investing but any recommendations for a credit card (not Amex) with decent rewards/cashback?
-
• #4489
Amex really are the best for rewards. Next best credit card at the moment is the Amazon Barclaycard one if you do a decent bit of shopping at Amazon. Otherwise it's the Santander edge credit card.
If you're open to a debit card, the Chase one is really good for rewards. Nearly as good as an Amex. Otherwise I have a Santander Edge current account and get some okay rewards on that. 3 quid a month account fee but you earn 1% back for all spending on groceries, household bills, and travel costs.

Amex if you want to kill the planet and fly business long haul for cheap.

trying to get Kid A saving into his ISA. He's in his 3rd year at University, has a job as well.
He has a Fidelity S&S ISA with a small amount of £ invested in a couple of funds. I just read that Fidelity charge a flat fee of £45 / year unless you are making regular investments so it would make sense for him to put away for eg £25 / month and save the £45 fee.
For maximum diversification and low fees I'm thinking of suggesting an MSCI World ETF:
are these basically the same? any other suggestions?

Pretty similar - my process for this is now download the factsheet pdfs of funds and stick them into ChatGPT or perplexity to ask what the differences are. Can also ask some different prompts to answer your specific questions.

I'd suggest investing in liquid assets and worry about saving when he's out of uni.
(This is not financial advice)

In the current mortgage climate, how competitive is 4.19% interest? Fixed rate, with the initial period from now until 2026, and the full term being 32 years? Google’s results are frustratingly inconclusive for me on this.

We recently remortgaged with a very similar deal to this and it was pretty much the market leading when I looked.
-
• #4499
We have a 5 year fixed offer for just under 4% for about 40% LTV. So your offer definitely in correct ballpark.

pretty competitive for a 2-year i believe. I have been using this online tool thing to compare (we are coming up to exchange/completion and keen to negotiate further down from where we are)
Anyone doing much with gilts to avoid taxed interest on savings/possible CGT on shares outside a SIPP?
