Great story. Not the same but my dad and some of his neighbours have lived on the same street for over 40 years. I'm fairly certain that when they were still working, hated one another. But now they're retired have formed The grAy-Team and most problems are solved using a blow torch, angle grinder and C4.
Genuinely think it helps them all keep going.
The thing my neighbours have going on.
John lives 2 doors down from us, he’s a 78 year old now retired barber that had a shop in the city. Next to us the other side is David, he is an 81 year old cyclist. When they both moved into their respective homes within a year of each other in the mid 1980s David went to John’s shop for a hair cut, as they were neighbours John wouldn’t take any payment. So the next day David dropped a ‘nice’ bottle of wine round as a thank you. A while later John asked David to fix something on his bike, he offered to pay him, but no we are neighbours. The next day John took round a bottle of ‘nice’ wine. Yep the same bottle of ‘nice’ wine. Obviously this could have gone one of two ways…
…fast forward 40 odd years and every month or so David takes that same bottle of ‘nice’ wine round to John’s and has his hair cut, a week or so after John takes his bike round for a ‘service’ and brings along that ‘nice’ bottle of wine.
That ‘nice’ bottle of wine is probably only fit for putting on chips now, but it’s getting drunk by whoever survives the other. They both have it listed in their wills now.
