it's an arms race
Symptomatic of American mental state since WW2. Useful (though possibly not ideal) during the Cold War, but dysfunctional ever since the wall came down. It stems from a need for feeling safe, and cuts across all facets of life: someone might hurt me with a gun, so I need my own guns; someone might hurt me in a car crash, so I need a bigger higher car; people are consuming more illegal drugs, so I need more cops with more power and more weapons; a few cunts hijacked and crashed some planes right under my nose, so I need to know everything about everyone at all times; China and others don’t agree with me, so I need to spend even more money on weaponry to make sure I can destroy them if they attack me.
There are alternative routes to every scenario above, but the US always prioritises the one involving reactive violence and force. It’s a goddam mental illness.

Yeah, it's an arms race for vehicle size. I'm seeing more of those Raptor "boys toys" fucking twin cab, lifted "work" vehicles over here. They're common in Oz but this is London ffs.
Countries should be banning all production of SUVs. They're the cigarette of the car realm.
