Mid nineties I was more into Basic Channel, Carl Craig, Underground Resistance and Black Dog Productions.
I found the Blur vs Oasis battle ridiculous as I was much more excited by other things.

Umm, you've clearly overlooked the fact that Ace of Base were actual nazis

• #101930
Genuine question, who are they?

Have we done Radiohead yet?
Thoroughly looking forward to someone posting a savage hatchet job and reading the resulting fury from the most sensitive and humourless fans pop music created.

I hate Radiohead. Some of the music is good, but it's for prep school home counties people isn't it?

Alex James from Blur.

Indeed. Very much the origin music of people who moved to East London and rode around with one gear on their fixeh bike.

I hated Radiohead for Creep and they never redeemed themselves

This hindsight is interesting (maybe) but back then when oasis/Radiohead/blur etc were doing their first stuff, our experiences of culture were much less global and more local and personal - we didn't have twatter or anything to instantly see what everyone else thought, you had little pockets of scenes that could be totally different from one town to the next but have some unknown cultural overlap.
Anyway - PARKLIFE
I only like the early stuff

As mentioned previously I didn’t really care for Blur Oasis or any of the Britpop stuff.

From before it was cool (Britannia)?

Most music mate by people over 30 is boring

• #101941
Oh yeah, it is all rubbish after (What's the Story) Morning Glory? and half of that is rubbish.
-
• #101942
Haha, a few days ago I typed out “Radiohead are shit” but bottled out and deleted it
-
• #101943
Yah I love it.

I’m sure I remember reading all this blur vs oasis vs Radiohead stuff in Melody Maker in my mid teens. It was quite fun then when all I had was radio and the MM. less fun now when there are supposedly places you can go for memes.

I googled Neil Kulkarni and Coldplay and found this, which is a zinger

I was enjoying his writing until his Nick Drake piece which includes this:
That they are all, convincing though the mutual backslaps and incestuousness is — suffering from a severe type of mental illness, the kind of Aspergers-delusion that in any other walk of life would require a psyche-evaluation and a recommended sabbatical for six-months to a year.
Hate on the bland "from the heart" singer songwriters for sure, but neurodiversity =/= mental illness.
