Ken Ryall track frame build...any interest

Posted on
  • A friend has asked me to find out if anyone would be interested in buying his custom build Ken Ryall (1960s Hounslow) single speed track bike…in PINK!

AKA… “Pink Panter II” (due to the gear ratio?)

    • Lightened 531 frame (51.5cm he thinks, but I can measure if needed)
    • Unknown rims, though he says the complete wheel set cost £800 and they are very true
    • Halo hubs (flip flop rear)
    • Halo 16t freewheel
    • SRAM S Series 52t alloy crankset
    • Campagnolo Super Record pedals with BLB toe cages + red nylon straps
    • KMG chain
    • Miche Performance brakes (frame drilled for rear)
    • Dura Ace brake levers
    • Tange headset
    • Selle Italia Flite Titanium saddle
    • Alloy stem + seatpost
    • Duro Gran Compe tyres

Dry stored and done about 500 miles over the last 8 years.

  • Thanks. On their way…!

  • How on Earth did Halo hubs to alloy rims cost your friend £800?

  • Perhaps £800 is a typo?

  • Need a price!

    Seatpost size? 27.2mm?

  • Good question. That’s what he told me…

  • Will check seatpost size

  • He’s looking for £1000

  • Is it me or are there a lot of runs in the paint, especially near the head tube. Wonder if the conversion to AK brakes same time as re paint. Pedal spindles look very shiny, wonder if they are SL and not SR.

  • What do you think’s realistic then? The owner’s a real character - off grid living, doesn’t drive, only cycles (and commutes to his gardening work) single speed and doesn’t do phones/internet, hence me taking on the sale. I’d really like to get him the best price I can for him, but open to offers…

  • IMO I think it is a £400-£500 bike at best, probably less. There aren't any real stand out components. Your friend appears to have paid £800 for £200 or less wheelset. It is definitely a bit different and probably rides nicely but that doesn't make it valuable. I do wish him the very best of luck with the sale though and kudos to you for helping him out.

  • Any offers?
