I know that spokes, nipples, cones and complete axle assemblies were supposed to be available, and often weren't, but I never saw rims listed as spares.

Shimano rims do have a part number for ordering spares, but I doubt whether anybody has gone through with the order after seeing the price relative to a complete wheel. Maybe on the Ti freehub DuraAce models it would be viable since the hubs are so expensive.

SJS Cycles has loads of Shimano wheels spares - axles / freehubs / all those weird proprietary spokes and a selection of rims (although not as many as they used to by the look of it)
10 speed Dura Ace tubular 20 hole carbon laminate rim? yours for only £300 (down from £400!)

Cheers, seem to have a somewhat reduced stock of lengths compared to the last time (couple of years ago) used them

Try Cyclebasket, 29p per spoke+£5 p+p if they have the sizes you want.

+1 for cycle basket
I got a couple of hours to put the my front wheel together, turned out pretty good considering it's the first wheel I've built for a few years... apart from me counting the first spoke hole from the wrong side & now the hub logo doesn't line up withe the valve hole, which in turn isn't in a wide spoke gap... ffffffuuuuuuuu

Ah, nice one. I think I have ordered from them before - have everything I need and much cheaper too :)

For the rest of the wheel's life you're going to regret not starting over.
Just relace it, go on

I was going to do it last night but couldn't muster the energy - but yeah, it has to be done!
Wonder if I could remove the nipples, carefully wriggle the spokes free then rotate the rim...
edit scratch that - I still have the other rim sitting bare, i'll zip tie them together & transfer spokes across one by one

Morning. My Giant SLR rims are showing signs of wear and will need replacing in the near future, before I start browsing for wheelsets I have a pair of DA 9000 hubs wanting to be built up. What would be my options for a carbon shallow tubeless rim please

Building up some MTB wheels, spokes come out at 279.7 LHS 280.79 RHS. I'd normally round down, but was thinking of just getting 280mm spokes (278 are out of stock anyways). Is that going to cause me problems?
-
• #11896
If your calculation is correct, 280mm will be fine. I'd always go +0.5/-1.5 rather than universally rounding down.

Sounds a sensible approach, thank you

I’d like to build a new wheel for the front of my mountain bike. It’s a 29er, takes a 3 inch tire and I’m going to build it with a dynamo. I’m gonna be Bike packing on this bike and I just need some rim recommendations that will take what’s right and suitable for a 3 inch tire 32 hole and Bike packing. I guess I’m kind of new mountain bikes so I don’t know I’m looking for any suggestions, please.

Rim brake?

Kinlin do some wide MTB rims, no direct experience but their road runs have been good to build up.
Just noticed this - thanks for the heads up but i'm sorted now, picked up a couple of cheap Bontrager Connection rims that should do the job.
Won't be the blingest of builds but they actually look pretty decent for £14 - just have a vintage 130mm Novatec rear disc hub that's been in the shed for a few years to refurb now & we're good to go, what could possibly go wrong...
