  • Can I just check if I bought something online and want to return it, I don't have to give a reason and the shop have to accept the return and give a refund? It's not been used and in the exact same condition as when delivered and it was only yesterday.

I bought some wood vanish bottles from a Dulux centre that are 2 years old, they are now refusing to take them back, saying if it has problem, the manufacturer will give a lifetime guarantee. They kept saying they are not 2 years old, the date on the bottles are the production date, so they are 2 years old then, no? The manufacturuer says if they have been stored "correctly", they should be fine, otherwise, they vanish will peel off as it dry. I don't want to put the vanish on the wood to then realise it's gone off then have to deal with that. Dulux's reason for refusal is because it's a direct supplier order so if I return it that the shop will be stuck with the items. How is that my problem? I said, how could a direct supplier order be something that is 2 years old and moment before that, they literally said they picked them from the shop floor. Then they kept saying if I return the bottles they can't sell them.

I am done arguing with them, it sounded to me they are just giving excuses knowing they wo't be abl to sell those bottles that are 2 years old, also it's the poor customer service that pisses me off so I want my money back and go somewhere instead.

So if I brought they back to the store that delivered them and tell them this: https://www.gov.uk/accepting-returns-and-giving-refunds can they still refuse? If they do, what's next?

  • If you paid by credit card, claim money back through them

  • Did you read the 'distance selling' bit? The key bit is whether it's within 14 days. Edit: and >= £42

  • No, Dulux do not give a lifetime guarantee. The most you get is the cost of paint in vouchers to spend at a Dulux center/Dulux paint and only if you have a receipt.

Can tell you from recent experience.
