    Apologies for foot content

  • How’s the comfort?
Does the back strap rub on your ankle bone?

  • Generally good. It rubs a tiny bit, but I havnt done anything to the leather to try and stop it. I could wax it and bevel the edges more.

  • Just made these for my local cafe - menu holders and table numbers.
I either need the table numbers laser etching on or some laser cut letters. Anyone help? Will pay obviously

  • I could help with laser cut letters, could laser etch onto the holders too, but they'd need posting (Reading)

  • That’s brilliant thanks! Probably easier if you could laser cut the numbers if that’s ok? I simple font between 40-50mm high? 1 to 9

Let me know how much and I’ll send you the money over

    Cheers mark

  • Good?

  • Wow! They are perfect. Let me know how you want paying?

  • Sent you a pm

  • Do you know about laser cutters? I looked for a thread but couldn’t find one…
I’d like one for thin plywood (to prototype and iterate a toy design) but no idea what sort of £££ I’d need for that. I started looking into it on Reddit but it was a big rabbithole.

  • The one at the makerspace I am part of is big, expensive. It's a 90kw laser. Will cut 3mm ply around 30mm per second. And cuts up to 12mm thick.

    It's a commercial unit essentially.

I don't know much about domestic ones. I guess broadly it's power and size of bed that determines cost.

Maybe there's a space near you that you could join

  • @Dramatic_Hammer same - looking for advice on largeish desktop laser cutters, and found this thread …anyone give insight if the convenience of a Glowforge is worth it over value of an Ali-Express? What power is worth investing in for say 5mm ply?

I’ve got relatively proficient on vinyl cutting machine & software, and I presume this is relatively straight-forward to transfer, so perhaps the interface/convenience that you pay for on a Glowforge isn’t as relevant. Any advice gratefully received - esp what to avoid!

  • vinyl cutting machine & software, and I presume this is relatively straight-forward to transfer

    Absolutely

  • It seems that the more powerful ones need more ancillary equipment to run them, which increases the cost and space (and maintenance) required significantly. I’ve looked for a space but there’s nothing local to me, although I may be able to use college equipment in a few weeks.

  • Paging @Regal because I know they have one at home and are bound to have done the research first 😂

  • We do have a Glowforge, but we got it years ago now, from the original crowdfunding campaign (2015?) so it was something like half the price they are now. I think the equivalent model now is the Glowforge Plus.

Been happy with it, it does what it says on the tin and the software is pretty good, we've always been able to get the results we wanted. We also have the extraction filter unit which means you can run it without sticking the exhaust tube out of a window if you need to. It's not the most powerful or fastest unit, but we didn't need it to be.

@Chopsicle drop me a line man, come over and check it out!

  • Thanks again - all done and in use!
