  • Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) has gained popularity and is often raved about for several reasons:

    Health Benefits:

    1. Digestive Aid: ACV is believed to help with digestion, particularly in breaking down food and reducing bloating.
    2. Blood Sugar Regulation: Some studies suggest that ACV can help lower blood sugar levels and improve insulin sensitivity, which is beneficial for people with type 2 diabetes or those managing their blood sugar levels.
    3. Weight Loss: ACV is often touted as a weight loss aid. It is thought to increase feelings of fullness, helping people eat fewer calories.
    4. Antimicrobial Properties: ACV has been used for centuries for its antibacterial and antifungal properties. It can be used topically for skin infections or to clean surfaces.

    Skin and Hair Care:

    1. Acne Treatment: Its antibacterial properties make it a popular home remedy for acne.
Hair Rinse: ACV is also used as a hair rinse to help remove buildup, balance the scalp's pH, and add shine.

    Detoxification:

Alkalizing Effect: Despite being acidic, ACV is believed to have an alkalizing effect on the body once metabolized, which proponents say can help detoxify the body.

    Natural Remedy Trend:

Homeopathic Popularity: As people become more interested in natural remedies, ACV has become a staple in many households for various minor ailments and health issues.

    Accessibility and Versatility:

Easily Available: ACV is inexpensive and readily available in most grocery stores.
Multi-Use: It can be used in cooking, as a cleaning agent, for personal care, and as a health supplement.

While many people rave about ACV, it's important to note that scientific research is still limited on some of these claims, and it may not work for everyone. It's always a good idea to consult with a healthcare provider before starting any new health regimen.

  • Thanks GPT.

    Detoxification, ugh. 😤

  • why does everyone rave about acv

More to the point, why do they call it the tautologous ACV when CV would fully describe it?

  • You’ve never tried PCV?

  • Apple Cider in merica is normally apple juice, hard anpple cider is cider, they also call Perry pear cider. So be all counts the ACV description is wrong.

  • Right but why doesn't RWV do all those things? Especially when they contain naturally occurring tannins

Tannins are naturally occurring compounds found in many foods and drinks that may have a range of health benefits.

    These benefits include:

    • Antioxidant properties
    • May lower blood pressure, total cholesterol, and stimulate the immune system
    • Antibacterial properties
    • May help fight tooth decay
    • Immunomodulation
    • May inhibit the growth of bacteria, fungi, and viruses, and serve as a natural defense against microbial infections
    • Anti-inflammatory, anti-aging, and anti-proliferative
    • May reduce the risk of cancer and neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer's and cardiovascular diseases
  • ^ May is getting buff after all that heavy lifting.

  • I'm looking for some low-friction tape to lubricate my dishwasher's sliding door mechanism, where the dishwasher door rubs against the plywood cabinet front less than smoothly.

    What's the slippiest self-adhesive stuff?

  • Does anyone have a "nice" route from Haywards Heath back to South London? Or anywhere about 30 miles away and easily accessible by train. I've been given a free pass from parenting this Saturday to go for a longer ride. Just getting back into road riding so out and back is unlikely to be enjoyable. I fancy getting a train out and riding back from somewhere.

  • I think you are going to struggle there. Anything that's slippy (think PTFE) isn't going to lend itself to adhering to anything much.
If the cabinet front is plywood, can it not be sanded so that it doesn't interfere with the drawer?

  • The problem is not with an adjacent drawer, rather the plywood front on the integrated dishwasher itself grating on the dishwasher door when sliding open/closed.

I've just ordered some 'UHMW Polyethylene' tape, apparently designed for this kind of application... will see how it works.

  • Christ!
    That's spendy.
I'd be interested to hear how you get on.

  • Yeah, fifteen quid for a roll of tape is a bit of a bump, but if it stops the dishwasher from sounding like a dog dragging its arsehole along a rug when opened then it'd be worth it.

Looking at getting one of these

Wondered if anyone might be able to advise about whether the x21 x-pac is going to be worth the £50-ish extra (once additional pouches added) compared to the standard tiptop nylon? The tart in me wants to go for x-pac, but this will be for daily use so weight less of an issue and durability probably the most important thing. Asking here as these bags are from Indonesia so I can’t feel one in the flesh. Thanks! 🙏🏼

  • You don't say what the non X-Pac fabric is, but Wizard Works have some useful info here re: different fabrics, weight, abrasion etc.

  • Wouldn't it be nicer to train out, ~30 mile loop in the countryside then train back? The various acronym night rides (WNKR or whatever they are/were) are really good for this, they all have good train access and then ~30-35 mile routes drawn in nice lanes. Have followed a few and always thoroughly enjoyed, so props to whoever puts them together.

  • That's an option too, I'll look at that, thanks!

  • You're south east aren't you? The blast back in to town along Skid Hill Lane / Layhams Road in to West Wickham is always fun.

I have no idea if this will share correctly but something like this would be a nice loop, you could adapt it to be one way and tack on some bits to get there from which every station you opt for.

  • Hey crew

I'm about to cycle from the UK to Berlin via Amsterdam and wanted to ship a bag ahead to meet me there.

Brexit is making this an expensive and admin-heavy pain in the arse so I'm thinking of taking the bag on the ferry with me and shipping it from Amsterdam, within the EU.

Any potential pitfalls with this? Or cheaper ways to get a bag to Berlin than services like SendMyBag who all charge ~£100 for a 10.5kg bag.

  • Put the bag in a box and post it?

  • Oops yeah should've clarified that we'll box it up.

Just wondering if there are any potential snags I may be overlooking by doing this from within the EU

  • Weird question which may not be answerable. A lady I work with has asked me this question but I don't know the answer or anyone that would know. Her grandmother has just moved into a home. She wants to run a camera in her Gran's room but has no idea what or how. She's young and quite computer literate, if that helps. So what should she be looking at and where is it available? I've just thought that there must be a baby monitor type device.

  • Thank you, I'll pass that on.

  • Don't use banana boxes ;)

All I can think of is a return address in case the bag wants to travel and insurance if the bag never appears again.
