The placement itself is absolutely fine. It's very easy to read without having to squat and accessible as long as you can reach it.
I have slight difficulties to do single step adjustments though. Maybe the ball bearings need to break in but right now they are a bit too stiff. You won't have the problem if you change it to stepless of course -

£158.71 for customs.

Brought my moka pot on holiday only to discover the hob is induction. I ghetto'd it yesterday by putting it in a dry pan on the hob but that seemed super dodgy. Found a cafetiere in the back of one of the cupboards so all is not lost. CSB, etc...

Ouch, mine was 1/5 of that

That’s interesting- UPS for both, but different values.
Mine showed £145.81 as “government charges” and £12.90 as “brokerage fee”.

Which is VAT at 20% from a quick calculation

It has been unboxed and 3 shots pulled. Definitely not got it quite dialled in, first shot was too fast and the next ones too slow.
Feels more vibrant and tingly on the palate, and am assuming the extraction is much higher as I feel a little bit animated.

Mine was just “duties and taxes” no idea why the discrepancy.

Really enjoying this. It’s a really good session coffee and really well priced.
Good for espresso and cold brew.

I've always struggled with the V60 and I think this, along with differences in filter paper stock, is a big part of it. Agitation of the grounds can cause fines to migrate downwards and clog the pores of the filter, stalling the drawdown. Brewing with decaf, which is even more prone to generating fines, exacerbates the problem.
I've found this with decaf. Coffee takes almost twice the time to draw down. What's recommended method for decaf brewing? best to just use aeropress or some other method?

I use The Hoff's Clever Dripper method with my decaf, works a treat.

I've tried a few things. Not stirring, using the japanese v60 filters rather than the dutch ones, and upgrading my grinder. Can't say any of them solved the matter completely. Heard of "Cafec Abaca" filters from another company that are meant to be clog-proof but not tried them.
I wonder if Lance Hedrick's approach of shaking the grounds to glom together the fines and boulders would increase flowrate as it does in espresso.

Not heard of this water-first method before, will give it a try. Thanks for sharing.

The burrs in my Porlex tall chipped off into my coffee this morning - before I spend upwards of £30(!) to buy a replacement set, has anyone got a nice hand or motorised grinder for sale that they'd post down to Devon. Something that's a reasonable upgrade over the trusty Porlex?

It’s really unsatisfying compared to pouring water onto the grounds but does annoyingly work

I was doing grounds first when I initially got my CD, it would take an eternity to draw down and the brew was a bit muddy as a consequence. Fortunately The Hoff shared his* method a few short weeks later and that solved everything.
* Tho' I seem to recall he got the tip from somewhere else.

I do water, grounds, mild agitation, wait three minutes and pour.

^Hario Switch, not Clever Dripper though, so ignore me.

Picked up a bag of this recently. It's a bit darker roasted than Square Mile's decaf espresso but I don't think it's a bad thing at all. Very fruity, more so than I can recall having in any other decafs of late.

It's a limited roast and I don't think they've got loads left, hopefully I can find something else similar when they run out.

Here's my hot take for today, I don't think the Wilfa Svart is that good a grinder. I've had it for nearly 3 years and I'm fed up of the inconsistency, the level of fines it produces and the fact that I can't even use the full range of grind levels as if I go past half on the dial, the burrs hit each other.
I want an option-o mini, what else should I consider for filter instead of waiting for a used one to come up?

Fellow Ode Gen 2?

I’m looking at similar and reckon I’ll end up getting Ode 2. Not sure the Timemore 078 is worth the extra?
I used to do all the faff with staggered pours, controlled swirling yadda yadda, but nowadays I try to minimise complexity and focus on the basics. Gives me less headache in the morning :)
But the new grinder is certainly a good opportunity to reset and question everything, haha
