  • Ridenow very good.

  • Very good for not taking up space but on the occasion I had cause to use one first I was mocked for my "barbie inner tube" and then the tyre lever went straight through it when the tyre went back on leading to additional mockery, and having to borrow a real tube.

  • why are you using a tire lever to get the tire back on?

  • Because sometimes wet thumbs aren't enough.

  • I've bought RideNow and Cyclami off AliX and carry them as spares because space/weight. Whenever I've had to use them it's been easy enough, just have to be a little more careful than with a butyl tube to not pinch. Couple of my bikes are set up tubeless so its not all that often I've needed to stick a tube in, but when I have it's been temporary , I'll whip out the tube when I can be arsed, clean and pack down again.

I did puncture a TPU tube once, tried to patch it and that was a non-starter. I've thought about TPU tubes for track bike but I'd rather go without the marginal gains and run butyl tubes at 120psi, tried and tested and all that.

  • Thanks guys for your Experience i had order some Ridenow tpu . people kept going on about them so i thought i give them a go on my rim brake Emondo .

  • we're all going to need new tubes, or at least valves, when these become the new standard.

  • Time for this classic.

  • LOLs

Imagine thinking you'd change every valve and pump head in the world.

Also, I thought we were all moving back to Schrader valves because they work better tubeless and we don't need skinny Presta now that all rims are fucking wide.

  • I’ve got Panaracer Aramid Flat Away liners on a set of Challenge Strada tires which has held up really well. I’d like to put something similar onto another set of tires but it appears the Panaracer liners aren’t available in the UK. Any other recommendations?

  • Anyone tried cheap fake tubolito TPU tubes?

  • The proper ones don't work, why would you use fakes?

  • May have finally had enough pissing around with tubeless tyres and the depressingly endless and expensive woes that go with them. So, what's current thinking on best combo of weight, repairability and useability tubes-wise? Lightweight butyl or other?

  • Latex, always latex. TPU have failed on the valve for me on 5 separate tubes (two tubulito and three ridenow).

  • Normal butyl tubes.

I find it pretty funny that people watch Dylan Whatsit videos and install latex tubes for a few watts are also riding around on the tops with FTPs in the 200s in flannel shirts with handlebar bags and danglemugs.

  • That's a good point. Maybe its a hangover from being at the pointy end.

  • I use latex tubes when I'm racing. That's it. There's no reason to use them for anything else and anyone who tells you some bullshit about the "tyres feel better" or "I can feel the lower Crr" or whatever needs to get laid and get a grip on reality.

  • anyone who tells you some bullshit about the "tyres feel better"…

Was on a gravel ride with a guy that was spouting this shite recently. I had to stifle my laughter as he punctured on the first descent.

His tyres were only about 28 or 30mm wide which I’d have probably punctured before getting out the carpark so hats off to him making it as far as he did!

  • Ok cheers - have got the tubeless to seal again so for now sticking with that but am wavering...!

  • Its OK, I so this in my kitchen at work. Something breaks because its not designed for what I'm shoehorning it into doing. I keep adding cling film, duct tape and tinfoil until it just about holds again. I then use it daily until it breaks again followed by me kicking myself for not sorting it out properly. Rinse and repeat.

  • They do feel better than butyl, and better than TPU as well. It's only noticeable after swapping inners in the same bike with the same wheels. What's the point on having sweet cotton tires to put a big chunk of rubber inside.

  • 2025 will be all about externally cabled rim brakes and butyl tubes

  • I got around the high cost of inner tubes by going back to (eye-wateringly expensive) tubs!
    🤔

  • Double blind test and get back to me.
