What's the best basic option for a front basket? Seems you have to buy a rack and basket separately and then work out how to attach them? Google seems to throw up pricy hipster offerings. This is for a genesis day one set up with a flat bar.

Yes that. Pizza rack or similar, then zip tie or voile strap basket on.
Or something like a pelaga rasket?

Wald basket. No idea if you think it's pricy.

I’m looking to get a Tubus logo rear rack for my faran and there appears to be two different kinds of mounts, a normal looking plate type and a 3D foot type. Is there any particular advantage in one or the other?
-
• #1356
Someone can correct me if I'm wrong but I think the Evo/3D feet versions have extra room for clearing disc brake/dropout gubbins if you need.
See the 3rd pic on SJS for reference https://www.sjscycles.co.uk/carriers-racks/black-tubus-logo-evo-rear-rack/

I see thanks. I’ll call in condor and see if they have both is store to size things up.

Reporting back that I tried P-clamps and one side has broken after 5 months (albeit with some decent loads on the rack from time to time). Wanted to buy the LM-1 but my fork blades seem to be about 19mm where the racks will attach and the LM-1 is rated for 20-26mm.. any other options for forks without mid-fork eyelets? Could I wrap some rubber around the fork blades and use the LM-1 anyway?

Anyone know what rack this is?

That rack looks custom to me (i might be wrong tho), but if you're after something similar, Bontrager makes a similar one. Otherwise the Surly Nice Rack is also comparable!

It's a Nitto/Rivendell.

Looking at getting one of these
https://lbbjkt.com/products/the-transition-x21-black?variant=48593041654044
Wondered if anyone might be able to advise about whether the x21 x-pac is going to be worth the £50-ish extra (once additional pouches added) compared to the standard tiptop nylon? The tart in me wants to go for x-pac, but this will be for daily use so weight less of an issue and durability probably the most important thing. -

I'd like to get a light rear rack to put my Front rollers on. What is a good rack to put the bags far back? I have big feet and short chainstays...

Tubus Fly? One of the stays goes up vertically and small ortliebs can be fastened behind that, if you know what i mean...

You can also use these extension plates to move the rack a bit further away from the cranks.

So weird I was literally reading that blog about the fly earlier today.

anyone use the blb lite rack?
I'm considering one as a lightweight front rack / bar bag support but it looks a bit 'buy cheap buy twice' -

It's a bit silly that it doesn't have any way of adjustment... You have to be lucky that it works on your bike without it looking ridiculous
-
• #1369
yes, I suppose so.
I imagine that attempting to adjust the angles on aluminium tubes is likely to fatigue the metal and encourage it to snap. -
• #1370
I think you'd want to measure it to the ideal length, trim the stays then re-bash the flats, drill, spray.
Ideally you'd anneal it first to make it soft so you could create the flats with a vise/similar.
^that's if it was wildly out. You could probably do most with some light bending of the brake hole attachment and main vertical to horizontal bend.
It's also £22.
-
• #1371
yes, that was my thinking as well.
for £22 it's probably worth a punt! -
• #1372
Also some sort of spacing would give you extra angle adjustment.

I've been looking into getting a rear rack as I'm fed up of lugging all my stuff in my backpack when I need to commute in to town. I'd rather not have something attached permanetly so this Ortleib quick rack looks like a good solution. I want to try and keep the bags as compact as possible so what would people recommend for carrying a 16" MacBook, shoes and a change of clothes?
-
• #1374
I think you want at least 30l. Shoes always take up more space than you expect and there will be times when you want to bring things home.
Go Ortleib. Although Altura are also good and Decathlon are OK for budget.

I have an Ortlieb quick rack and love the ability to use it during the week and take it off in 10 seconds before my rides at the weekend
Long shot but does anyone have a spare Klick Fix aluminium frame?
