I think better to use some super convoluted method like siphon or something, and totally fuck it up - undrinkable ground-filled soup

Then thank him for teaching you the technique

If I ever pluck up the nerve, I will report back

I pull until the coffee reaches 5-8mm from the faceted edge of a wee Picardie glass. Science!

Interested to know where your arms stop for that.

Yes or maybe even a bit sooner. For me it’s when it stops making a nice creama and starts diluting it.

Bought some of this to take up to Edinburgh for my mate

Brewed in his Flair and it's really good. I'm no good at describing espresso because I only really drink filter but the tropical fruit flavour is intense yet smooth. Recommend this one!

I really enjoy this method too, it's what I used to do before I got the clever Dripper.

Interesting you can only buy it in shops not online

What's with these cans? Do the beans come in cans or is that for brewed coffee?

Have I walked into the beer thread by mistake?
-
• #27414
I didn't know that, I bought it from Lodestar but I assumed it was also available online
-
• #27415
They're beans that come in cans and you can buy reusable rubber lids to go on them
-
• #27416
Ah ok - makes sense, kind of :)

• #27417
I guess it's a gimmick but I quite like it.

Varies a bit, making a coffee in the next few minutes so I’ll try and check.

So just now I stopped the pour when the arms were about 50mm from the legs.

Tell me more about the “radical sourcing” and “superior roasting”… ah good there’s a manifesto… ah good I’ve smashed my phone to pieces

Felt cocky for successfully stripping down my 2012 Gaggia classic to clean out the solenoid and boiler but put it back together and seems like the limescale and corrosion were holding it together.

Hoff's kid is friends with my kid. Anyone dare me to invite him over for coffee and serve him Nescafé?
Spin the lid off the jar, slosh some grounds into the mug with no direct measurement of quantity, fill it up using water from the hot tap, generous slug of UHT milk from a carton that until then was sitting on the windowsill, put an open bowl of white granules in front of him and say "I'd taste that first, might be salt".

Regarding the Philos, I ordered one with the 200 series burrs, because the majority of reviews that I have found suggest that they would be better suited to the type of coffee I usually go for, but when available on their own I'll get a set of the other burrs (189?) as they're not hugely expensive and it would be nice to see how they compare.

Don’t you have both models of Niche as well? Be interesting if you could dial all three in with the same coffee and do a taste comparison.

Ha, I placed an order for the same myself last night.
Yes I think I am. Do you mean when it stops 'streaming' and becomes more spurty, for want of better terms, probably around 2/3 of the way through.
I'll try stopping then and see what happens.
