Perhaps the heat got to him more than we initially suspected. He was never beating Wout unless Wout was left to chase. Best he could hope for was six seconds, or four if he'd left Sivakov out there and made others try and bring it back. As it was, he predictably got nish. It was bizarre. Let's hope he doesn't need Vlasov tomorrow.

That's because they've loaned their main bus to Soudal-Quick Step.

Ha that’s a cool little Vuelta side story!
-
• #51280
But Caja Rural is a different team to Burgos-BH
-
• #51281
Yeah, I realised that after I posted it. Still, it's a nice little story.
Caja Rural have been doing two races this week, one in France and the Deutschland Tour, so maybe their bus is in France. (I doubt they have two).

• #51283
They almost certainly don’t have two.
They made a good showing yesterday - in the break.

Confirmed this morning Roglic didn't even try and sprint for any seconds. Purely shithousery from Vlasov at the end.
-
• #51285
It's not like Bora and UAE would get in a pissing match between domestics, no way 😅
-
• #51286
Roglic crash is inevitable but so is a mental and physical collapse from O'Connor but which comes first?
-
• #51287
Never discount personal animosity as a driver of behaviour. It's quite possible that Vlasov has beef with Sivakov and didn't want to see him win a stage.

Both at the same moment so another unexpected hero can take the prize

• #51289
Well, if there wasn't any before, there definitely is now.

Almeida has Covid. His continuing is 'in doubt'.

• #51291
Pog to replace him under new UCI emergency substitute rule. #armchairds

• #51292
He would be 31:23:27 behind O'connor.
So it would probably go down to the final TT.

• #51293
This would make great viewing.

• #51294
Vuelta's getting interesting.
-
• #51295
Yes - it's all over the place. Going to be hard for anyone to control.
-
• #51296
Shame Tao's going so badly. I wonder if he will target a stage, but I wouldn't blame him for just writing this year off.
-
• #51297
Victor Campenaerts joining Visma next season. That's going to be good.
-
• #51298
I don't know if he's going badly, just his preparations for this race were severely disrupted by his crash at the Vuelta a Burgos. From what he said before the race, it was touch and go whether he'd even be able to start, as he has a broken rib amongst other injuries.
-
• #51299
Yes, that's what I meant by 'going badly'--obviously because he's again had so much bad luck this year, unable to prepare, etc. It may have a more technical meaning among real roadies. :)

Well, yes, going badly, as we say in cycling terms.
Went to Deutschland Tour stage 2 today. Caja Rural’s team bus is… modest.
Lotto Kern-Haus - a development team, I believe - just had a Ducato with an awning.
