  • Mary's are a nice shape. Have a look at Bontrager Satellite as well, I have them on my daily bike and they're really, really comfy with ergon grips. Cheap as chips as well.

  • I've got that bar on my rockhopper, it's so comfy, but it only comes in matte black and I think I'll try to get a polished black one if I can

  • Silver as well! Still might not suit though.

  • This turned out absolutely amazing. Very nice details with the hand painting touches, very jealous of your skills.

  • Id start with a stem a few degrees down so it's level and maybe not at the top of steerer stack when already on top of a 200cm head tube. Do SMP saddles even work when sat so upright? I've got one on my beater and it needs me to sit as a specific angle. The chainset is too modern and chunky, anything more retro would look better, and silver too. While I'm here the OEM Halfords pedals distress me.

  • I say it out of love because you've done the frame really nice. Didn't you know all parts bin builds start out cheap then spiral wildly

  • Thank you! I added those because of some bleed issues with the masking and I am really happy with how they turned out

  • The stem and steerer I totally agree, just didn't want spacers on the top for the photos tbh, I think I will drop it and have 2x5mm spacers underneath.
I have used SMP on uprights before, and it's what the PedalMe riders use and have recommended to me. I will swap it as soon as I get my hands on a cheap Cambium C17 cutout but it was free so can't complain.
I can see what you mean about the chainset, doesn't go with the rest of the build. I am thinking about a chainset like this:

Why do you say silver? I think it would clash with the rest of the black components no?
The pedals are Deore XT, get your glasses checked ;)

  • Cheers, really happy with the frame, the build is going to be an ongoing tinkering treat for me as cool parts come into the workshop. I think I will wear out the wheels and then replace them though.
Always the way with parts builds you're right, my rockhopper pub bike now has tubus rack and a son dynamo setup lol

  • Also gonna get the satellites, do you think I should get the glossy 25.4 clamp ones or the matt 31.8 clamp:

  • Glossy all day!
