Cheers all that's reassuring, mirror and angle are probably doing me a few favours mind. Next step might be to get some solid middle aged basics as I live in baggy sweatshirts/hoodies and wear caps.

Hiding your pinky finger and wearing a jacket over the gilet, it's a very stealth implementation of the look

What were you doing/about to do?
I always enjoy looking at insta dandies but wonder how they deal with the daily rigours. How do you walk the dog in suede loafers, or ride a bike?
-

You don't.
That's why people walking dogs look like German parents on a camp site.

Always a balance
You've conjured up an image in my head of a see-saw with Edgware Road Gucci loafers on one side, a Sloan Ranger on the other, and in the middle precariously balancing on a toe, the suave urban Italian.

Not strictly fashion, but feels a good place to ask...
I'm much more conscious of the sun on holiday. This year I wore a baseball cap on the sea and swimming pool until I'd built up my tolerance. But it's a bit limited as it only shades one part of the face.
Is there a sort of safari type hat that would be fine in the pool and sea with kids? The ideal would be something that while no doubt ugly has an acceptable functional vibe - sort of like a pair of Radars or Birkenstocks.
Cheers.

I posted a link to this Patagonia sun hat a few pages back. Seriously, I love it. My son has inherited his Dad’s sense of outfit coordination. ♥️

Tilley
Looks fine to me proportion wise, far better than skinny lo-rise teenager jeans on someone middle aged.
