  • There's a thread for that...
    https://www.lfgss.com/conversations/313846

  • When you can't just 'reject all' cookies and tracking in 2024.

  • Yeah. Just websites in general for me. Quite a few times I’ve tried to look something up or buy something and just closed the whole lot and thrown my phone down because I can’t be fucked to click on yes, no, allow, no I don’t want the newsletter, etc etc. Off to Amazon I go. I tried.

  • Absolutely, it's fucking ridiculous

  • There must be a browser extension that can take care of it, no?

  • ublockorigin for ads but can be configured to do other stuff

    pihole

Firefox can do a lot of tracker blocking

Various VPNs have content blocking options (malware, ads, tracking, porn, gambling, etc)

  • Does the website work if it's blocked? I sometimes have to switch off uBlock because the website is frozen until you confirm the cookie popup.

  • Yeah, that's the case with some sites (that have been coded correctly). Most websites probably just added the stupid popup as an afterthought so it does nothing much to rendering of other bits and in some cases it does nothing to stop cookie dumping in the first bloody place - they ask for permission after the cookies have been shipped. I know, coz some of ours were like that for a while :)

  • I've got pihole, VPN, Firefox blocking and ublockorigin installed so sometimes can take a bit of experimenting to see which thing is blocking what. Dev Tools is useful for seeing which domain has been blocked and then can check which tool is doing that specific blocking and add exception if needed.

  • I’ve been using this https://consentomatic.au.dk sometimes it doesn’t work but is successful most of the time.

  • Thanks for that link.

  • People who paint the white bits on Victorian houses black.

  • Is there a good blocker for Chrome/YouTube on iPhone? Whenever I try to find one it’s all for laptops and/or other browsers. I don’t want to fiddle about, I just want to pay £0-£2 pcm to have no ads and cookie popups

  • Customers who talk about how they're "project managing" their building work.
No you tits, you're paying me to do that, you're just choosing things you like and then buying them.
    And that isn't "curating" either.

  • No Android 😔

  • ublockorigin works in Chrome. Youtube is trickier because the ads are served from the same domains as the videos but there were options like Vanced and stuff. Not sure how effective they are.

  • Ironically this is almost unbearable because of the popups and ads! I’ll have a look later

  • It is if you're posting it all on IG.

  • There’s a few reviews from today saying it’s no longer working on Chrome.

  • I thought that might be the case. Sorry, I just use ublock and deal with ads.

  • Also, re:renovations, it all depends to what extent the builder is involved. Ours managed his kitchen subcontractors but we had to do a lot of "PMy shit" because we had to organise the boss builders, the kitchen supplier and then a bunch of randos for other bits like Thames Fucking Water and collection of the old kitchen and checking over the quote and sending unused bits back (Howden's oversupply and then take back the excess).

  • Fair point.
Probably putting on their CV too

  • Well if my customers buy some shit off someone, and it's not what they wanted, they need to sort it out. But that's just fundamentals of shopping, not project management. They could get someone else to do it, but then they need to pay someone.

  • It's hard for me to say what real PMs do having worked with a bunch that just seemed to send emails back and forth without understanding what was happening or what they were doing. But I'd have thought it's primarily about scheduling the right shit to happen at the right time.
