From what I've read, samsung cameras are pretty decent too.
The unreliability thing is a bit of a red line for me, I've always had phones which were borderline indestructible from Blackberry to OnePlus to the earlier Pixels.
I get you can be unlucky but there does seem to be a trend for lower reliability from the 7 onwards.
Maybe the 9 will change that but we will have to wait a while to see, and a longer while until they fall into my price range.

Camera was a consideration on the early pixels. I don't think you will find any really bad cameras any more. Though apparently the shutter lag on the new pixel 9 can be up to half a second

My recent Motorola had a terrible camera. Absolutely awful. The whole phone was slow also.

I'm still on my Pixel 5a from new. Last few weeks battery has not been lasting as well as it used to. Had to 30sec reset last week and sometimes all that will start is the clock. Don't think 3 years is bad.

Anyone got a very old Samsung S series they want to get rid of for peanuts? Needs to turn on, condition unimportant apart from that.
I don't actually want the phone but Samsung are doing enhanced trade in if it's an S series phone

Was all up for getting a Pixel 9 to replace my 6 pro (which really is fine) but the fact they're pushing the AI angle has completely turned me off. Might just get an 8 pro.

Or wait for the 10?
Knowing Google the AI thing will be a one off fad like some of the other features on past pixels

I'm tempted by a refurbed Samsung S23. I've never had a Samsung phone but other Samsung stuff I have seems well put together.
I tried a whole bunch of brands over the years; my last phone was the first I bought new, I think - an Axon 7, a cheapish Chinese number with flagship spec. Nice hardware but disappointing software, was less than the sum of its parts. Then my work gave me a Samsung S8 to use.
I hated the curved screen, but the hardware was sweet, and the software very polished. Got a used one for the missus when she needed a new phone, and it's been going strong for years, although it could probably use a new battery and LineageOS or something now that it's no longer supported.
And using the S8 made me decide to ditch the Axon after a couple of years and get an A71. It's been a great phone so far. My only gripe is that three years or whatever of updates is considered good, so it's getting due for a rom flash...

I had a Samsung but the bloatware annoyed me, that's why I got a pixel. But the hardware is good on Samsung.

Back using my Samsung s9 while the pixel 6 goes off for repair, and I'm reminded how big and heavy the pixel 6 is the s9 is a perfect size

Kid B's 7a sent back to GiffGaff for replacement, let's see if the next one is any more enduring.
when i next have some cash i'm going to get a refurb S23 and bequeath my 6a to Kid A. I noticed recently that it has a tiny crack in one corner - i've dropped it a couple of times recently and the Google rubber case isn't that protective.

Fwiw I have my phone in a quad lock case and I haven't been able to brake it despite many drops

My Quadlock has slowly been coming apart at the base, got sent a new one last week, all good now.
I should be getting a new Pixel 8 very shortly, was going through the tiresome warranty process last week. They wanted me to send the phone back to verify it was fucked (because my say so and photographic evidence isn't enough) so I made a bit of a fuss about being a multiple repeat customer and they've agreed to send a new one straight out. Just waiting for confirmation now.
Yes, tiresome, that's the right word for this whole process.

Super weird no calculator on my s9.
But I am enjoying the clipboard. Such a useful function lacking on the pixel
-
• #23041
You sure? The Samsung XCover series had a calc.
-
• #23042
Yeah. Nothing in search. Weird.
So slow keyboard typing too -

Almost exactly 3 years for my Moto G30. I definitely think I can get another year out of it.

How does it differ from the Pixel one? I thought the Pixel clipboard was pretty good with being able to see the last few things you've copied and pin stuff.

I wasnt aware pixel had a clipboard, my 6 didnt. Unless it has a weird shortcut or i never saw the buttonto activate it.
-
• #23046
My 6 has a clipboard icon to access it

Weird. Ill look when a warrenty return comes.

Is the pixel 8 any good? Smashed the screen of my 4a recently, so the 8 feels like a natural upgrade.

Somebody must have uninstalled it. You can download the Samsung calculator from the play store.

Yes your right it seems so. Thanks
We're both using Pixel 6a and have no issues with them. They're pretty cheap and work well.
