That's what I was thinking. Just thought I'd ask in case anyone knew for sure.
Easier/cheaper just buying an Eastbourne return than two singles from different places.
All the trains I'm getting on the Southern site go direct via Lewes and don't call at Brighton, so I think you might want to double-check whether you could return from there with an Eastbourne return. (I doubt it.)
