Road fixed / fixed road

I bought this EG Bates from @nankatsu a few months ago. No changes to speak of yet. I'm using it as a road-fixed for the summer, before I turn it back into a track bike. The Shropshire hills were a challenge.

The clamp on front brake is good enough but I didn't enjoy going down hills that much with it!

Riding fixed in the Shropshire hills would be properly hard I imagine! Looks beautiful.

Dynamo lights back on to hopefully get me riding this for longer rides again

Thought I’d take the Mystery Machine out this morning 50km-278m climb-27.7kph ave. Not bad for a 73 year old bike :D

Good to see a classic old frame back in action. I bet the long wheelbase feels really comfortable and contrasts favourably with newer frames?

STRONGLY recommend upgrading that chainring at some point.

I went from a Stronglight to a Zen and it was like I was riding in a lower gear, except I was actually in a higher gear.

This is great, tapered headtube means you can easily get a disc fork for it

I wonder if Omniums fit…

I saw it real, it is pretty cool, has a couple of smooth welds with an "anodized" looking paint

Wouldn't it make more sense to have the fat part of the downtube at the welds instead of in the middle?

It looks oval at the BB shell, which makes sense

It looks like they have just stuck a tapered headtube and double side drop out on the old bike to me. Which is not a bad thing. Mine is 12 years old, has over 32,000km on it and gets treated like dirt, it’s held up on far ;)
