  • Quiet in here. Going to get myself a other campervan out here.

Trying to decide between a T4 westfalia and a Hyundai H1 4x4/space gear.

Leaving to a the Hyundai 4x4 and put a pop top tent on if I need more space.

  • I would go for the westfalia, you can still take some easy dirt roads if you have to and the Hyundai will be shit on the paved roads. All depends where you want to use it ofcourse.

  • I hear that and that's the dilema. I won't jack the Hyundai up so much. I will use it to go skiing and into the mountains, so I can see good use from 4x4. I would use the VW light off road and I'd be scared to damage it or get stuck.

  • T4 Syncro if you can find one and have cash to burn?

For reliability I would go for a Japanese van over a VW

  • get stuck.

Maybe fine in a lighter van, but FWD campervans are pretty notorious for getting stuck even on wet grass

  • I've got a very small and tight budget, what I sold.my UK van for. Hence older VW.

I think Hyundai is the ticket. Having seen two spacegears in Kyrgyzstan where no land cruiser should go, I know they're capable beyond need.

  • We had a T25 without major issue but colleague just had a full engine replacement in their T5.

And yes before I’m corrected Hyundai are South Korean. My friend has a 4x4 Hiace which is solid, although thirsty for a diesel!

Hyundai sounds perfect for your needs and an actual use for 4x4.

  • To be fair it's a mitsubishi body and some even have Mitsubishi engines so it's a mix match of good quality.

Westfalia t4s are silly money here, it's painful to spend 9000 euro on a 200,000 km 2000 westfalia. A Hyundai H1 will be a bit cheaper but less used and bit newer.

    Second hand prices hurt here.

  • Camper vans are illegal here, sadly. I have been keeping an eye on UK prices and they still seem high/higher than I think they should be. Am I missing some affordable euro6 campers?

  • If you think they're high there, come look here!
If you plan to use it in Europe a lot, why not get one from Germany, generally better prices and wheel on the correct side.

  • From a Quick Look they’re about £70,000 for one you can drive into London.

  • Hahaha fucking A-Team van.

Did you sell your other one?

  • I think so.

  • Madness. Get a amg and hotels.

  • Look at base van!

  • Hyundai H1 4x4/space gear

This took me down a rabbit hole where I found the Most Modified Camper In The World https://gearjunkie.com/camping/diy-overland-build-tacoma-video

  • Came in for a chat, booked in for October, left the van with us for some prep and measurements and we will have it finished by Friday!

  • Ah okay I thought you were talking about this specific Hyundai from the picture. One with less silly tyres would be more useful I think and better for your purposes than the VW.

  • Yeah sorry. I run Yokohama geolanders on my Subaru and they're great off road and good on the road too.

  • I admit I’m tempted by the sort of trailer that Blok Pod have made for cyclists: https://www.instagram.com/p/C-9npTSsog9/?igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==

  • It’s cool But the £££ doesn’t make it worthwhile for me
