  • Hey there, it was a cheapo £8 plastic, metal and silicone one that I can break down and tote in a bag. Would not recommend because I’ve had to fix it twice already with 15mm dowel and aradite! (so that £8 is more like £15 now).

Communal broom needs to be cheap and sturdy!

  • I’ve seen a couple on Amazon for like £15, not sure if that’s cheap enough. Plastic and metal with a retractable handle.
Broom and squeegee are the play I think. Outdoor squeegee of a decent size 45cm+ is £15-£25.
Anyone have the contact for the friends of Stockwell skatepark?

  • Would recommend something you keep and are happy to transport. Not in a possessive way just in a ‘guaranteed to have it when arriving’ way.

Ideally you want a Bulldozer broom, but with some kind of multi-handle.

Not sure if there’s a stick that wouldn’t require making yourself. Using a crutch or something alu and clicky would work well.

  • A broom. At Brixton. Like THIS?

    (removed bandwidth sucking broom.jpeg)

  • Yeah, saw that yesterday it and squeegee were up by the bin on the raised seating area! But last couple of times I’d been down couldn’t see hide nor hair of it. Also old Jamaican geezer who comes along smokes a doobie and sweeps up of a morning was complaining that the broom had broken, so assumed there wasn’t one.

  • I’m herding a 6yr old plus pads, and don’t have the free hands to be carrying a broom and squeegee down everyday, plus we’re not there early enough for when it’s really required, hence the thought of making it a communal broom, and leaving it there.

  • I'd be up for an East Sussex skate at some point!

  • Fair points well made. I would trade in the child for a broom, but you may have to put cash up to make it worth it to whoever trades you the broom.

  • Ah yeah, he was also complaining about it today : )

  • Yes! Will DM you my terms and conditions…

  • Must have been more than 10 years since I stood on a skateboard. And certainly some 30+ years since it was this one... back at it for a session of 'can I still do this' at age 54! Chose 78A Slammer wheels comfort over speed, also not to scare myself too much.

Pumptrack in the local park is fun, took a few laps before I got the hang of it and completed a lap without stepping off or pushing. It will probably be a while before I try the concrete bowls next to it though ;-)

Attachment: Also I learned that now there are electric 'bikes' (with no pedals or chain) for 5-year olds. In the generations to come, people will stop pedalling altogether I suppose :-(

  • Holiday project for my kids is painting a deck each to hang in their room. Any tips on painting boards? Unlikely to be skated outside.
We’ll use spray primer for the base coat, then maybe their paint pens for detail? Clear lacquer spray to finish?

  • 👍

    @Tallboy
My process is pretty much as you’d expect:

Give the top ply a light rub down with some fine-ish sandpaper to give it a bit of tooth.

Carefully mask off the sides to just leave the top and sides of the top ply unmasked. Helps to kind of burnish the tape down a bit with a roller if you have one, or rub a wooden spoon along it if not. I feel like this step does give the finished thing that bit more of a ‘proper’ look to it. You’ll be glad you did it.

Prime - as you say, spray prime is a good shout for this.

I’ve used normal acrylic paints and also spray paint for the actual artwork. Also Indian ink. I don’t think I’ve used paint markers, but they’ll be fine too.

Once dry, I remove the masking tape and then give it a few coats of spray lacquer with drying time in between.
The more lacquer, the more hard wearing, but once a board is being slidded, it’s all just patina anyway!

  • Nice work. edit Is that pump track surface brushed? How does it ride?

Also: Can you tell me what those shorts/longs are?

  • I suspect that might not be the actual pump track.

  • In the generations to come, people will stop pedalling altogether I suppose :-(

  • uh, okay. Looks very rough!

  • Enjoyed a little session at Lyme Regis skatepark with my son and my (utter ripper of a) nephew

The park is a small square affair on two levels with bowled out ends and corners.

There’s a bunch of nice edges and coping at various heights, it’s a great learning spot

I got my drop ins back on a very small transision. I started to bust out some old moves to embarrass the nephew and impress the old local. Apparently Willy Grinds and Bertslides are not the done thing

  • awww c’mon Berts are 🔥

(anyway, isn’t this Bert Summer or something?)

  • I go down to Charmouth regularly, so I try and get a visit in to Lyme skate park when I can. It's a fun park! I've found that tapering transition really useful for learning/re-learning stuff on as you can just pick a height.

  • Exactly that

    Such a good design

  • It's the concrete path alongside it, not the actual pump track, that's the one in the little clip!

The shorts are old Decathlon B-Twin nylon mtb shorts ;-)

  • Cruiser added to the quiver

  • That's nice, what size is it?

I've just put together this big ol' 10" pool / cruiser board, not had it's maiden outing yet due to insufficient risers but should be a laugh

Did anyone here take a punt on the Mindless completes that were kicking around online? I need some cheap cruiser wheels for another board & some bushings & thinking i'd probably be cheaper just buying one if they're half decent
