Been busy here in JoshHQ.
Made a few racks for people, been servecing some bikes for people in my local area and doing tonnes of house stuff.
The croix de fer got a new set of wheels***: kinlin 650b TL-21, 2cross, hope rear / shimano front, gravelking 42c, tubeless
It also has new 48cm bars, dura ace bar end shifter, spyre SLC calipers.
Rack will get installed when the lacquer dries, it's currently too soft. I'll get them powercoated in the future.
*little note on the wheels.
Damn, they are lighter, roll nicer, spin up quicker, handle better than I was expecting. They really do suit the bike. Certainly an upgrade over the 700s that were taken off.
I'll get better photos for yall one day xoxo

However….
I buy my 4 x 2 inch timber by the meter
44 cm wide handlebars 1 1/4 diameter
24 threads per inch by 68mm wide bb
Etc…
You’ve touched upon something I have always found fascinating! -

64,961 inches of climbing. Imperial units. Perfect.
And the bike looks delightful.

The extra inches matter.

I'll do what I want but I won't do it around you, cause I like ya.

This reminds you of my Dad, he’d give measurements in feet and mm. Because he knew I wouldn’t have a clue about 1/16th. Drove me crazy

Here is more of the bike.
Reallllllly glad I upped the cassette to a 42t, the hills between Hereford and Haverfordwest are no joke and crossing the Brecon Beacons was bloody wonderful.
Overall stats were 358km and 4218 meters of climbing and 19hrs riding time.
Really loved the route but whoever works at Komoot and National cycling network really do not like cyclists (sometimes) as parts were bloody steep or bloody swamped.
It really is a go up to come down situation and never a let's go around situation.
Photos of route and blunders to come.

358km and 4218 meters
Perfection
Bike looks good as well. Wouldn't low rider panniers be nicer for this sort of ride? Looks like a lot of weight heigh up over the front wheel?

I have plans to make some over winter when riding stops and making happens!
I did feel like the weight was high up, steering felt sluggish at best. Perhaps some news forks with a lower trail would suit too.

That CdF looks great!
How'd you convince that 9-speed rear derailleur to shift a 11-42 cassette?
I've got some bikes with 10 speed setups (various road levers) and 9 speed mtb derailleurs (like yours) too and i always thought that those derailleurs could only take a 36 or maybe 38t cassette? -

Long cage derallieur and b limit screw maxed out helps get it over that 42t. Paired with a dura ace 10 speed road shifter.
Had no troubles shifting at all.
