  • Is there a forum-approved pre-run warm-up? I think my days of warming up on the road are behind me.

  • Walk the first k might be enough.

  • Run Better With Ash does some nice simple warm ups on Youtube that I find quite helpful but then as above, walking for 10 minutes is best practice too!

  • I think my days of warming up on the road are behind me.

Jog around a playing field for a bit?

  • Struggling to pace my running for marathon training independently. So I’m looking for some sort of activity tracker that can give me pacing while on a run, not keen to wear one full time so not keen to break the bank and happy for battery thats not at its peak.

Don’t suppose anyone has something at the back of cupboard that they’ve upgraded they would want taking off their hands for cheap!

  • I've got a Coros Apex 42mm that has been in a drawer for a while.

Massive battery life but it didn't like running round a track on my wrist so I stuck with garmin.

    £80?

  • Both my endorphin 2's are dead speed and pros. Anyone had v1's and 2's and now running in v3's 0r fours for comparison? Or meta speed sky's vs endorphins?

  • If it's any help, I can only compare Endorphin Pro2 to Metaspeed Edge+, but only a handful of runs in the latter. They definitely feel more peppy, but not enough data to say whether they're actually any quicker.

Shoe question! Does anyone have experience of Takumi Sen v10, re: sizing, specifically women's? (Asking for a friend.)

  • Appear to have contracted some peroneal tendinitis and curious to know if anyone here has experienced it?

Came about while cooling down from a 6x800 session on Tuesday, just as I was finishing up could feel a dull pain on the outside of my left foot. I’ve put it down to likely running unusually (not consciously) due to some tenderness in my left shin, putting more pressure on my ankle/foot.

I’ve not ran since Tuesday and the pain has subsided but definitely not disappeared. Can switch to the bike for a while but hoping it doesn’t keep me out of action for too long!

  • So, my theory that I could go from nothing to 100km ultra in 5 months at the age of 50 turned out to be bollocks, unsurprisingly. I'd have needed to do a marathon last month and shorter ultra this month, but the plan was a bit too aggressive and I only managed to do a marathon now, and it took 4h30, fully a half hour slower than I'd expected. Heat and a hamstring contributed, but it was overall a sobering run.

Anyhow, much to improve on, and am now looking to build and get into some proper longer-distance stuff. First thing is to try and find some interesting ultra stuff over the autumn/winter. If anyone knows of any decent events, particularly if they're a bit offbeat/unusual, I'd be grateful if they could flag them.

  • Also, the marathon was a small event, about 70 people there. 2 of them - separately - were wearing NYPD Blue Lives Matter vests, and I chatted to a guy at the end who seemed ok, but then put on a red MAGA baseball cap as he was leaving. Has running got a bit fash-adjacent while I've been away?

  • I had the speed 2, one of my favourite shoes. Picked up the speed 4 awhile ago. Haven’t done a huge amount of mileage in it but nowhere near as good as the 2 in my opinion. The grip in the wet is still shite, there’s a lot more material in the upper, I need to really cinch the laces to get a proper lock down. It’ll do the job but not a shoe I look forward to running in

  • This event is really good, only in it's 2nd year. It's 50 mile race but also has a lite version. It's laps of a 5 mile course in Epping Forest and the Harriers are a great club.

  • Sorry so you prefer the 2's to the 4's?
Just found some 2's on the bay in my size 30miles old apparently £50 so I'm going to buy them just unsure about ordering a newer version as well

  • Sorry there was a typo in there! Much prefer the 2.

  • Gotcha 2's off eBay then I'll start exploring what else is out there once v2's are extinct

  • Thanks - unfortunately, it comes a bit too soon - there's no way in hell I'll get to 50 miles in the next 3 weeks.

  • Ah ok , There's the lite version which is less than 50 miles and what you can manage/feel like on the day.
5 mile loop as many times as you want but not ten times.

  • I have a place in the Great North Run that im happy to give away for free due to not being able to do it anymore.

    Pm if you want it.

  • Second run post (and ongoing) injury. I knackered my adductor while climbing and it’s been painful ever since. I tentatively went out with the club after 3+ months off running a couple weeks back and just about managed. Went again last night and the pain and discomfort was a lot less - albeit still present at the end. And definitely in tatters today. But it feels like progress - but it’s going to be a long road to recovery it feels like. 6 slow miles on the moors and a mile before that to get to my lift. Not too bad really.

Has anyone else had adductor issues?

  • Yes, didn't really get better by not running, got pain free but would immediately flare up when I tried to run. Only got better when I did couch to 5k style very gradual volume build up, eg walk 1 min run 1 min 15 min initial 'runs'. Took 3-6 months of build up to be back to 5k+ runs without it just flaring up. Over 1 year on can still tell it's weaker on that side of I try things like adductor side planks which I think would also help but don't manage to do often (also try and climb/run).

  • A guy says he was drugged while running a marathon in US.. story is a wild ride

  • Edmonton is in Canada, but, yeah, pretty wild story.

  • Ha .. geography fail ! I think somebody must have spiked my coffee this morning

  • What sort of mileage are you guys getting from a pair of trainers?

I’ve been fairly consistent at about 40km a week, 10km of which is typically a speed interval workout, 12-15km of an easy long run, and occasionally a 5km parkrun, otherwise easy runs. I have 3 pairs of trainers and would never wear the same pair 2 days in a row. I’m fairly religious about s&c and every week do a leg session made up of some plyometrics, single leg rdl’s, split squats and calf raises.

Until maybe 2 weeks ago this was all well and good, I had just come back from a weeks hols, followed by a low volume low intensity week to ease back in, but after my first speed workout, a 5k paced 6x800 on the road, my left foot felt a bit sore to walk on. Initially it felt like the pain was along the outside suggesting perineal tendinitis, but quickly shifted to just in front of the heel which I think is plantar fasciitis?

I took a very easy week and it felt fine again, but ran a hard Parkrun yesterday and been in pain ever since, again starting on the outside but shifting to in front of my heel.

Each of the 3 pairs of shoes I rotate are just hitting 300km, and I was wearing the same shoes (ASICS superblast) both times I experienced post run pain. One pair is at 400km but I never push hard in that pair so maybe a combo of shoes past their best and increased intensity?

My volume hasn’t increased, nor has intensity, and my core and legs are strong, so the only thing I can think of is shoes needing replacement, but 300km seems on the low side. That said I am 92kgs so not exactly easy on trainers. I’ve never had pain doing speed or tempo runs in superblast before now.
