Cheapish Mountain bike or Hybrid M/L

Posted on
  • My friend is looking for a cheapish, £200-£250 mountain bike or hybrid. He's 5 foot 11. Doesn't have to be in good cosmetic condition but reasonable nick, with gears and brakes that work and chainrings/cassette that are not worn out. I can replace worn cables or pads but don't want to have to do anything more than that. Rims have to have plenty of life left in them. Rim-brake is fine, possibly preferred.
Please let me know if you have anything suitable. Based in Stoke Newington N16 but I am sure he would travel in London for pick-up. Thanks.

  • A mate bought this 90s Trek MTB through the forum during lockdown and has barely ridden it since, been stored inside since. If you think it would work from a size perspective I can get more up to date photos/details. It would be less than that budget for sure:

  • I'm super close to n16 and selling a kona rove for 295. Drop bar but handles like a hybrid, they or you would be welcome to check it out. I'm often in stokey in fact that's where the wheels bearings were serviced. It's currently sitting up tubeless with the tyres though and your pal may prefer tubes.

  • Hi, thanks both. Calum, I think for now he will stick with a flat bar.
gav, I don't know too much about sizing MTBs but I suspect 17" might be a tad small; his current one is a bit small so want to avoid that.
