If anyone is using a garmin this is a nifty app for checking tile completion as you ride;

Last week, Jonathan France finished his north coast cluster in Great Britain, spanning from Brighton in the south of England to John O'Groats in the northeast of Scotland. One of tiling OG's, Jon connected his cluster to Edinburgh and beyond in 2022. This year he took his cluster all the way north.
An impressive feat, considering all the tiles he had to bushwalk his way into. Climbing fences, crossing marshes, being chased off land, lots of hikes and hike-a-bikes and some second attempts because the first didn't work, even with careful planning. While at it, he is the 12th person to cross the bar of 20.000 cluster tiles!

So that's basically 3-tiles wide all the way up the island or something? Was that in one go or a series of rides? How long has he been actively doing these? As much as I'd love to compete with this kind of lunacy - I'd rather ride places other than the UK!

I'm still waiting for the French rival that will be called Hexagons. Jonathan's obviously a shoo-in to do well there.

is there a way to get more samples to statshunter? I am missing 2 tiles from the last ride because
it skipped the points at the edge of the tiles.

How infrequently is your GPS recording? That's some big gaps.
I got a +1 on my square yesterday after walking around Henley and then up near Hatfield. Tile bagging via walking is a lot fucking slower.
Saw a wallaby though which we'd probably never have noticed on bikes.

the top one is how the gps track shows up on Strava which is then picked up by Statshunter, so there are enough samples in it.
Edit: Squadrats got it.

Statshunter taking fewer samples or Strava filling in the gaps?
I mean, the top square clearly contains a point so even that doesn't explain why it hasn't highlighted it.

Found it, there is an option on each activity to up the precision!
Hurray, I now have most of the shitholes up to the M25 covered.

Thanks, I didn't know they had spread that far south.

I googled and there's supposed to be some in the Chilterns. There was an extinct population up north somewhere (York maybe, I forget)

“So I got my first ones by essentially bribing a local ranger to take me out in his boat which, I will admit, was only partly self-powered. That’s the only time I’ve kind of pushed my rules – we did have to paddle a bit, but his boat did have a motor as well.”
Cheats, everywhere.

How can he live with himself?

Eventually made it up to 33x33. One tile is stopping me from getting up to 35x35 but it's on a footpath on a moor right behind a farm & there isn't a single trace in Strava's global heatmaps up there. Will get it eventually, probably in winter when walking is more appealing than riding.

I just downloaded the EveryTile app onto my Edge Explore - got the KML file, my home coordinates, generated the string and entered everything into the settings.
Sat in the garden - with satellite visibility - it shows my home square as green and all other squares on the screen as red. Regardless of which colour means what, they should all be the same colour.
What am I doing wrong?

Setup sounds like a ball ache which is why I've not bothered.
I upped my square by another 1 with a walk yesterday. Strava looks fucked again so I can't show you the horsies.

Yeh I’ll run it tomorrow on my ride, and see how it goes.
Looks like a varied walk!

I had medical appointments in town (so grabbed some little tiles) and in the middle took a train out to Earlswood or something to wander around. Kinda crappy for a lot of it as I'd plotted along country lanes, which of course have fuck all footpath so you're constantly diving out of the way of cars. Would've been fine on a bike but live and learn.

you have to download yr current grid to yr garmin via the 'garmin express' app, instructions are here;

Hi mate. I did this - not via Garmin Express, but via the Connect IQ app.
Now that injuries are mostly gone I'm back to getting some local small tiles. It's been months since I've done any.
Meeting a colleague for a run tomorrow which is an excuse to run somewhere new and collect a few tiles on the cycle there/back.
