Appreciation time: Every year I get about a month in the summer to play around on this. Takes a couple weeks to get back into the flow (and about a kilo of YB) but for the last few days every single shot has been an absolute banger. Even switching the beans up, it doesn't care, just consistently produces 10/10 espresso. And at ~32g each I can drink them all day long. Just love it.

This is the machine I'm referring to when I say Europiccola. Identical to a post-mil except the boiler cap has a pressure release valve built-in instead of a separate arm.
My other Gaggia is the Classic. Got a PID installed and it feels so uninvolved by comparison. Much better for a big caffeine hit before work though.

Ah that makes sense!
I do love mine, though I do wish they made them with a 58mm group. Most times I have an espresso from mine, I immediately want another. I normally dose around 14.5g, would be nice to be able to get a bit more in!
Also, I've jerry-rigged a cold drip tower from my V60 server, an Aeropress and a Dr. Pepper bottle. Hoping for another warm day tomorrow so I can give it a go!

I used to be in total agreement about the dose size but the smaller amount makes it great for multiple drinks a day. Perfect for lazy weekends or 'playing' with espresso. Not so great for caffeine delivery on a busy day. I've been very tempted to give the Argos Odyssey a try as it seems to be the best of both on paper.

Perfect for lazy weekends
As someone with a 6 year old, I look forward to being able to properly evaluate that use case at some point.
A few months back, she asked what coffee tasted like as I was having an espresso. I figured this was a great time to have her try it and be revulsed by it to stop any more questions on it for the next decade. Was not expecting the positive response.
The Argos does look like a great little machine. It's rare that I find myself interested in newer machines, but that does look very nice. I like how they've designed it to be used both with and without the spring. Haven't seen that before!

I have no useful experience to add but would be interested in hearing about your current set up and why you want to change? You have a Niche Duo don't you, isn't upgrading the burrs to SSP not worth pursuing (apart from the warranty issues) or the swapping from filter to espresso on the Duo is too much faff and you want to go to a dedicated 83mm espresso grinder?
Edit, ah I see you are talking about changing burrs, not the whole grinder.... Ignore me!

It’s a valid question- I have both zero and duo, and the espresso burr in the duo is very close to identical in terms of output to the burrs in the zero. I’d like to experiment with a new set of burrs in the duo (using the espresso carrier) which would give me something different to the zero (and maybe could be used for both espresso and filter coffee, but for me espresso is the priority).
However the SSP lab sweet burrs appear to be $!!!, so I’m really looking for more affordable (but good) options.

Interesting. The SSP MPs come up on Ebay here quite often as people upgrade away from their DF83s but that isn't what you are going for!

$354 for the SSP LS- £210 at todays FX. Bit to much for an experiment, unless someone has experience of them to share that is strongly positive?

Sage Precision Brewer. £140 posted
about 4 months of use on it. comes with original accessories and instructions minus the water hardness strip. the included water filter is due replacement so you'd need to order a new one for yourself. don't have any of the original packaging anymore but will send cocooned in bubblewrap with a sturdy box. also includes filters for both baskets (1-4 cup cone and 4-12 cup flat bottomed) and a third party plastic filter holder for the cone filters.
has been cleaned thoroughly with puly caff but i am incapable of not leaving smudges or getting water spots on stuff it seems so it's clean but will need a quick wipe down out of the box.

Sounds like a great deal.
Better still we could swap our respective spb. Mine is much more efficient and streamlined due to lack of carafe. It’s also lighter so it’s got that weight weenie box ticked

How much coffee are you putting in?
Mine came today!
A few years ago, I borrowed a Puckpuck attachment to slow drip into an aeropress from a friend. Similar principle but a fraction of the cost. I preferred classic immersion coldbrew like the Mizudashi linked above. In truth, I don't think I'd enjoy either now though. Much prefer a normal coffee poured over ice.
