If only Musk was subject to British law.
Apparently he is
At least it was mentioned on the most recent (Trump/Musk interview mentioned in the notes) Rory and Alistair centrist dads podcast that the legislation is already there to charge/prosecute/whatever the term should be for some of his twitter ranting/lies -

I love this will

I prefer the other one.

Where there's a Will, there's a way.

While it's ok to threaten cyclists using a car and publishing your actions in a newspaper.
So what tipping point. ;)
What she said was pure hate. Should she have access to social media now?

Brilliant!

There's got to be a tipping point though
Sure, but fifteen months in the clink for that is plainly disproportionate. If folks who are happy to see her busted are shocked by the sentence, it's bound to generate a backfire effect... It's a tad, dare I say it, political correctness gone mad

Get a small sling bag that you can adjust high on your chest for takeoff and landing. As long as it’s unobtrusive and doesn’t interfere with your seatbelt or other people’s emergency exit, you’ll probably be allowed to use it.

I have knee issues that mean sitting with it bent for anything over half an hour is really quite painful. I can't do it at home, in the office or on a train either.
There are also neuro divergent members of my family that can't sit still for that long. Seems a bit harsh to just say "rawdog it fucker"

I was on a 48 hour flight from Warsaw to Melbourne back in 1983.
It was at this point I knew we were in for a little treat ...

only Musk was subject to British law.
He is, via X, under the Online Safety and Harms Bill.
His company can be fined up to 10 percent of global revenue and he can be held criminally responsible for actions incited on his platform that he reasonably failed to remove / prevent.

I think the sentences for the online hate are clearly more harsh than they would normally be, but that's the point. These people are being made an example of to send the message that this behaviour is no longer tolerated.
During and post Brexit, racists felt emboldened and in my cases actively encouraged. Labour are saying, fuck that.

Why is nobody talking about the part that social media platforms have played in radicalising swathes of Gen Xers by pushing diversive content?
TikTok particularly has a real problem with Far Right content that gets reported and never removed.

We discussed it in the conspiracies thread, and in the news thread. Self-perpetuating digital information silos are a huge problem for democracies.

Why is that beach volley rapist getting any inches in the paper for his sob story. Even the guardian had an article.
Some poor girl is having to relive her trauma whenever he gets covered.
I'm all for second chances, but an adult that rapes a 12 year old girl can jog on into the shadows. Should have never been allowed to compete .

Why is nobody talking ... swathes of Gen Xers
Gen X - curse of the forgotten generation strikes again

I really don't understand this whole "generations" thing. Whole generations of people do not think, act or behave the same. Whole generations did not share experiences. It just seems nonsense to me.

Classic Boomer / Gen X / Millennial / Gen Z / Gen Alpha (delete as appropriate) comment

You don't think that a generation that grew up pre-Internet/house purchases for buttons/ability to actually live on benefits/semi-secure employment etc don't think and behave a certain way? OK
There's got to be a tipping point though where people feel the consequences of their actions.
Lots of us say stupid shit online. But when you've had mobs going around attacking people and your response is "Blow the mosques up with the adults in it.”. Seriously wtaf?!?
Hopefully the free time gives her space to reflect.
