• My "new" BMW R100RS has an issue, unsurprisingly. I has sat completely unused since 1989. The guy I bought it from fitted a new starter motor, new tyres and a rear brake rebuild kit on it. The engine runs sweet as a nut and pulls strongly until last Wednesday. I travelled from Bracknell to Blackbushe, approx 11 miles, when it startes screaming. I was passing through some roadworks and heard what sounded like a workman cutting through the tarmac with a disc cutter. The trouble was it was the bike. When I got it home I checked the clutch cable and adjuster bolt and locknut and made a slight adjustment. I took it for a blat and all seemed fine. I took it out today and the screeming is back, not so much in first and second but loud in third*. If I keep revs down below 2500 or engage the clutch it's quiet. I haven't had an air cooled boxer since my R100RT in 1995 and that was bulletproof. I'm at a loss but I am assuming it's clutch related but I don't know why. I have the ability to take the box out but lack a couple of specialist tools involving the clutch so I need to transport the bike to a geezer in Harrow. Basically, long story short, who are the go to motorcycle movers in Berks East/West Lunden?
*This could have been why the bike was laid up 1n 1989, we'll never know.

  • It’s difficult to understand what the problem is. Do you think with the clutch engaged it’s metal on metal or a piece of metal in the clutch plates. You know it’s unusual in having a car type clutch. The clutch cable could be failing slowly and stretching.
