I tend to think Ten Hag was/is hoping the same would be true for the players that followed him. Because it's yet to come to fruition doesn't change the fact that it's a tried and tested method of building a good squad - go with familiar players.

Mourinho brought in players that proved good enough for the PL, who's Ten Hag signed from Ajax that's succeeded, probably only Martinez?
