I think the art meets sport thing is often problematic. I've worked with parkour athletes in the past who are disgusted by the idea of parkour/freerunning/ADD being mentioned under the banner of sport. They had no interest in 'formalising' the activity because part of the beauty of it in their eyes was the underground-ness of it, which is why the NGB was slow to form and struggled to secure significant investment from Sport England.
I would assume break dancing falls into a similar bucket (hat) and explains why the quality of competitions was fairly low - a chunk of the community wouldn't be seen dead at the Olympics. -

An American guy went down a rabbit hole to work out how she got there, who she beat what were the qualifying competitions etc. and watched videos of who she beat.
His conclusion was that Aussie womens breaking was just in a really weird place where the male + female breakers worldwide all conformed to the same styles, Aussie women had come up with their own local (and very bad) style for some reason. And she was the best at it. Also she has a Phd in Breakdancing.

While we're here.
I just fell out with someone (who, incidentally, used to be on here) who felt gender panicked by Imane Khelif being allowed to compete with other women because she didn't fit his idea of what a woman should look like.
Fucking spanner. I made him this, he wasn't pleased.

It was the only live breaking I saw and while absolutely amazing as a piece of performance art, it didn't sell me on the viability of breaking as an Olympic sport. It's worth a watch though.

Those articles still don't actually explain it with any clarity?
Is this right, she's an Australian dancer, who did a more artistic dance than the others, was wearing a tracksuit in Aus colours, didn't get any points, and now everyone's laughing at her because for reasons I don't understand, it's funny?

I'd say if you watch the video you'll probably understand the laughter

We had the same conversation with the same person with the same outcome 😬😑

Ah okay, I'll watch it on YouTube later. Is it purposely funny?
I never used to like performance art, until i saw Rooster at Sadlers Wells, and a new appreciation dawned.

One less dickhead to deal with. That's a win.

Send him this too, in the Venn diagram of arseholes there's probably a big intersection of Diana worship and racist misogyny

That's a seemingly sensible way to pick participants in what is a show business rather than a sports day, but who gets to decide? All the lesbian Tumblrinas who have been thirsting after Imane? 😂
There's so much to laugh at with JKR and her fellow travellers, not least that they've never said a word about Dame Katherine Grainger who is an inch or two taller than Imane and at least 20lb heavier at her "fighting weight". I wonder why.

There is potential for forum in joke points from 10+ years ago with this. I cannot find the thread... Those who know, know.

Eh wot? Where does Kat Grainger figure in this argument? I don't know anything about her except for her sporting achievements.
in eurovision getting null point is a badge of honour .... for the brits
