Are these made of steel? They kinda look like it but it says alloy frame in the spec. It also says "rigid suspension" in the spec so I'm not sure what to believe.

Most steels are an alloy of some description.

Well I would certainly hope a bike to be made out of a ferrous alloy, even one from argos.
I think you know what I mean though, alloy tends to refer to aluminium

In knowledgeable bike circles, yes it does. But for someone who knows nothing about bikes and is writing a description for a website, if they see "alloy steel frame" in the product literature, they might just stick "alloy" in.
It doesn't look like an aluminium frame to me, and the listed weight would hint at it being cheap steel.

The tubing looks like it could be cheap steel but the dropouts and the fact that it's chrome suggests aluminium

Had a close look at the Argos minivelo and it looks like a cgi rendering so would not trust the images in the listing to decide material upon.
Edit: Found an ebay listing with actual photos of one and it's defo aluminium.

There’s a couple of build threads for the Argos Mini Velo! Argos minivelo , soon to be Tern

One thing I noticed about the Argos render is the fork -> head tube transition looks way nicer n cleaner than it does in real life. Still sorely tempted though 😆

My brain always thought that thread was about Argos the resprayers 😮

^ that's a nice price, but in case folks are not aware, that's the Link Glide version, which will not work with the normal Hyper Glide cassettes AFAIK.
-
• #7817
Thanks for the clarification, I kind of ran out of groupset knowledge at 8 speed.
-
• #7818
It'll need a link glide shifter too.
-
• #7819
Basically it won't work with anything you already have
-
• #7820
But will work with friction? Asking as I’m winning one on evilbay at the moment.
-
• #7821
Try it, they use HG chains, the spacing on the cassettes and tooth profile is different, but I'd guess it would work if it can pull the whole distance.
-
• #7822
That’s my thought, I’ll not increase my bid though just in case.
-

Am i meant to be using a Linkglide chain with my Linkglide mech and cassette then?
I was moving the parts between frames and my chain was too short so picked up an HG54 chain which I only noticed was different to the chain that had come with the 10 speed linkglide upgrade kit because it came with a joining pin not a split link.
It seems to be working fine.

Nah, chains are cross compatible.
