I know Behringer are arseholes but their DFAM clone is down to approx £140 at Thomann!

Does anyone use, has anyone used a standalone drum box/groove box/sampler (seem to have multiple names for similar things)? Looking for a standalone all-in-one box, possibly similar to the Akai MPC One, Novation Circuit. Had considered the Native Instruments Masschine but that seems to need a computer and software, but it seemed all very confusing.
I know the Novation Launchpad is just physical buttons for a DAW as are many of the cheaper midi pads so those are out…

1010 Music BlackBox or Elektron Digitakt II. Both incredible machines

Thanks, not come across either of those in my research. Not convinced about the 1010, would rather more pads to use on the device vs a touchscreen. Electron looks potentially interesting, maybe more of a sampler vs sequencer (and I think it’s the sequencer part I want using loaded or pre-made sounds vs creating new sounds)
-

The sequencer on the Digitakt is very powerful, conditional trigs and chance (probability), parameter locks, individual pattern length per track plus loads more.. It can now do Euclidean sequencing compared with the OG Digitakt. It can also sequence external gear.
Plus the factory samples it comes with are really good if you just want to get stuck in.

Definitely one to do some more research on then, thanks for the info. Maybe see if there’s anywhere round here that stock a selection to have a look in person as a imagine the feel and workflow when using any of these is fairly personal

There are a bunch of things out there that will do some variant of what you’re describing. Digitakt is probably the one I’d pick but I like Elektron stuff.
It depends to a large extent on what features you want (or can’t live without), and maybe how much you expect it to be like a computer (ie with a screen that shows all the sequences etc). And that stuff depends on what you’re trying to do with it (solo jamming, live performance, playing with a band, home production etc, and what genres/styles).
Definitely demo some stuff if you can. The Roland MC-707 is worth a look as well.

slightly off topic but i reckon those in here are the most likely to have an answer: is there a a sample pad or similar that can send sound via bluetooth? Ideally not expensive as this is sort of for an elaborate practical joke
-
• #3735
If not, then you could get a Bluetooth transmitter? I’ve just bought a senheisser BT100 unit for a local community group that takes 3.5mm Jack in and then connects to up to two Bluetooth devices. Seems to do the job perfectly well for the last couple of weeks we’ve used it!
Else, how about an iPhone app (depending on what’s needed). Novation Launchpad has an app that’s essentially a small set of sample pads. Don’t know if you can upload your own samples but I’ve had fun playing around with it before.

hmm transmitter is a good shout, not sure how i forgot about those since i use one to listen to music from my phone (fuck you apple removing the jack socket)
end goal is to make something tactile that can be wall mounted, to get someone off having 20 browser tabs open with youtube sound clips

The Dub Siren DX app can load samples and change playback pitch etc.
Plus it's a decent Reggae radio.
Missed your last message, can't think of anything but it sounds like it would be more like a doorbell.

its actually pretty tempting to get a big row of doorbells.
this is not for a music project btw, its for fucking about in a workshop blasting stuff over the top of whatever music someone has put on deliberately. a wallmounted soundboard would be funnier, and I'd like him to not keep accidentally leaving the whole of the Venga Bus playing

Long shot, anyone have any need or desire for any of the following (or a good recommendation for recycling, as I’d rather these didn’t just go to landfill!). Well used gear that’s now been replaced from a local community group in part of, that’s now taking up room in my garage.
- 2x passive speakers. SpeakON and Jack inputs. Old but in reasonable condition, and when last used work fine but they are not designed for very low base frequencies.
- Behringer PMP5000 powered analogue mixer (includes amp). SpeakON main outputs from 1200w amp, 20 channel. Spares or repairs, may just be a fuse but currently doesn’t power on. Comes with flight case!
- 1x bass cabinet/foldback amp. Well used.
Any offers considered (even free as I want them gone!), any funds raised going back into the community group tea, coffee, and cake fund.
Based in Oxford which I appreciate isn’t ideal for this forum and postage will be $$$$ so also happy to hear of ways to recycle these or organisations that could refurb and reuse.

Not for electronics stuff (that seems to be all software these days) but I’ve used various delay/reverb/EQ/compressor rack mount gear for live sound production bits and bobs. Can’t see why it wouldn’t work depending on your set up.
One Can probably pick up second hand stuff not too expensively if you want to give it a try, everything from an engineering standpoint seems to have gone software and be included in digital mixers rather than as standalone units so imagine there’s a fair amount of stock floating around not doing much.

Only rack gear I have is audio interfaces (UAD/Focusrite) and a Quadraverb that I bought off eBay. I also have an Analog Heat, and a little FMR RNC compressor but I bought that with a live rig in mind.
There’s a thread on Elektronauts about folks using analogue hardware compressors / preamps / distortion / saturation etc but the prices mean you have to really, really believe that they’re better than the software options now to justify it (or be running a commercial studio).

Yeah I think I'd just like something like an 1176 compressor to slam drums through. The rest I can get pretty good results in UA Luna
-
• #3745
I've got a few hardware effects. I didn't buy them because I think they sound better, I just want to spend less time looking at a computer screen. Schippman filter, ensoniq dp4 and a chameleon labs compressor. The filter was pricey but the compressor and dp4 were cheap. Probably for a reason but oh well

Might be worth taking a look at the Klark Teknik clone - https://www.klarkteknik.com/es/product.html?modelCode=0817-ABA
I generally like the UAD 1176 emulations but I've don't know if I've really tried to slam them.

Yes that's the one I've been looking at. That and the Warm Audio WA76

i'd recommend the korg electribe. stand alone, didn't take too long to get the hang of the basics, good amount of samples and effects built in. did quite a bit of research before buying albeit from a complete newb point of view. it's been fun to mess around with it and see what noises you can get out.
i wouldn't know if it's a good machine or just caters for my limited knowledge but i've enjoyed it.

Cor blimey.
Anyone here uses Soundcloud Nextpro? I make music for my (art) films, some of which ends up on bandcamp. I put musical sketches on soundcloud, before they are tracks and occasionally upload mixes on mixcloud. It'd be nice to put all these things on a single platform, maybe upload some tracks to streaming platforms. Soundcloud Nextpro promises it can do that for $99/y. Anyone have experience?
