  • No, as it have you made any claims. This isn't a claim. Your insurance question is have you had any claims or losses..in the last 3 years. Ask for clarity and get it in writing.

  • You can get refused insurance for lots of things, I got a lot of issues with insurance being removed as I couldn't produce a valid CBT on the insurance on 400cc bike.

  • Your insurance may not have been involved but insurance was involved.

Insurance logic is that you should be left in the same situation as before, hence for a non fault accident they should pay out for increased premiums. The logic of no betterment is when changing consumable parts such as tyres and being charged for wear.

  • Thought I had replied at the time.

Sorry to hear of the theft, any video evidence of the theft to pass on to the police to catch the thieves?

As for notification to DVLA, you want to be registered as the bikes keeper incase it reappears as someone applies for a v5

My policy states I have to report any change to the facts I gave them when applying for insurance as soon as practicable - I think no longer having possession of the bike meets that standard. Not sure what you mean in the last bit, but the bike being stolen, even though 3p only is still a loss.
The scooter was insured eventually, I just got reamed in the process!!!

  • Yes indeed. The reality is that everyone’s premiums have gone up to protect insurance companies and their bottom line.

Admittedly for car insurance, but also applies to motorbikes - I think the assumption (Trick 2) is that renewing weeks ahead you've got time to shop around and might take your business elsewhere, but at the last minute you have fewer options so fair game for increased premiums...

  • That’s probably where I heard it, it works too.

I recall various things being given as reasons, ability to shop around, people being seen as lower risk as they associate early renewals with people who would fix an emerging mechanical fault before it became unsafe and people with a higher aversion to taking risks.

  • Mine was a month early and I got shafted.

  • Oh sorry I wasn't clear, when you get an insurance quotes, you are asked for any accidents fault or non fault ( note here you need to confirm your claims or any claim on a policy you are involved with, as someone on this thread found out) and losses which are insurance payout for stolen bikes/vehicle. If you do not claim on the insurance it is not a loss as the insurance company only care about them.

Does that clear up what I meant. Is that cleared up?

Oh you have to report that you no longer have the bike.

  • Insurance logic.

Used to be 4 weeks/28 days earlier but they may have got wise to that one, and changed it.

TLDR - The police inform DVLA on your behalf so you may get a tax refund if there's any left over. You don't have to inform your insurance so if it is subsequently found it will still belong to you and not the insurance company.

  • That certainly wasn't the case with me, I got pure shafted on the price of the bike they wrote off.

  • I took my RD out for a little vintage spin yesterday with a couple of mates on 650 Triumphs and inadvertently wheelied past some cops in downtown LA. Classic, two stroke, second gear minger....most inopportune timing. I didn't see them parked up, of course the RD is now extremely loud, so they saw me. Whoops.

  • The idea of insurance and the actuality of insurance.

Got to think of the profits.

  • Ok what did you get?

  • Didn't hang around to find out! Fortunately they were both out of their car, so I made myself scarce.

  • Lol sick

  • Is the term fucked off sharpish ;)

So not going back to that area with the same bike, jacket or helmet for about 6 months then.

  • Probably strong-arming the doughnut shopkeeper to get some freebies.

  • Haha, LAPD don't really give a shit unless you really take the piss. Felt amusingly naughty for a bit. Sprightly performance from the old girl, still need to go down 1 on the main jets too by the feel of it.

  • Saw an insta reel that most cops in the US won't chase bikers because bikers just pin it...

  • I've been watching too much of the rookie

  • My "new" BMW R100RS has an issue, unsurprisingly. I has sat completely unused since 1989. The guy I bought it from fitted a new starter motor, new tyres and a rear brake rebuild kit on it. The engine runs sweet as a nut and pulls strongly until last Wednesday. I travelled from Bracknell to Blackbushe, approx 11 miles, when it startes screaming. I was passing through some roadworks and heard what sounded like a workman cutting through the tarmac with a disc cutter. The trouble was it was the bike. When I got it home I checked the clutch cable and adjuster bolt and locknut and made a slight adjustment. I took it for a blat and all seemed fine. I took it out today and the screeming is back, not so much in first and second but loud in third*. If I keep revs down below 2500 or engage the clutch it's quiet. I haven't had an air cooled boxer since my R100RT in 1995 and that was bulletproof. I'm at a loss but I am assuming it's clutch related but I don't know why. I have the ability to take the box out but lack a couple of specialist tools involving the clutch so I need to transport the bike to a geezer in Harrow. Basically, long story short, who are the go to motorcycle movers in Berks East/West Lunden?
*This could have been why the bike was laid up 1n 1989, we'll never know.
