  • first jail sentence for a rioter .... 2 months

just stop oil protesters must be well pissed off, they might aswell set fire to a few cars and throw bricks at some posh twats helicopter and hope for a lesser sentence

  • Magistrates can only jail people for a maximum of 6 months. Crown courts can issue longer sentences, but can't deal with minor offenders quickly. The worst offenders have been remanded in custody with court dates later this month, i.e. like these:

  • ah so we might see some idiot racists go down for a decent stretch in pokey then

    fingers crossed

  • Burn people to death lady defended by her husband:

  • Yeah but those other ones, fair game, off to the chambers with em đŸ˜‘

  • "Some of my best friends are black"

  • There's not really precedence for this, but those convicted of more serious offences in the 2011 riots received disproportionately long jail sentences.

    My fingers are also crossed.

  • Likewise "illegals". Referring to people as illegal is fucking horrible.

  • this Tory councillor (Susan Scott) has just resigned after complaints about this post…

  • Wait until she meets some Jehovah Witnesses...

  • I just went to see Mike and Eva to see if they needed any help. They
have been looking after the flowers and gifts left for Bebe, Alice and
Elsie, watering the plants and taking the teddies inside when it’s
raining. They are absolute treasures to the Southport community

  • Yeh, terrible.

  • Sme of the Southport rioters have just been through the courts and one got three years and another thirty months.

  • Have you got a link? I literally can't get enough of this right now!

  • Looks like 41-year-old Lucy Connolly from Northampton has deleted her @LJCJ83 twitter account.

Is there not an archive of her tweets?

  • The whole rush to prosecute and get some multi-year sentences reported before further disturbances as a deterrent relies on the people involved being able to make a link between their actions and the potential consequences of those actions.

Id, ego + superego* in action

*I Am Not A Freudian Psychologist

  • Just read the report.

3 years for actually punching a police officer.
30 months for setting fire to a police van.

Roger Hallam got 5 years for conspiracy to cause a public nuisance for joining the zoom call where they discussed the protest.

    Talk about two tier sentencing.

  • Roger Hallam got 5 years for conspiracy to cause a public nuisance for joining the zoom call where they discussed the protest

I still have hope that will be reduced in appeal and the judge will get told off.

  • Thing that's annoying me is that most media reports are still calling them 'protests'. They're not protests, they're organised riots. Call them what they are.

  • Don't the government have to fork out if they call them riots though?

  • I'm no psychologist, but that seems like an awful lot of projection from someone who'd be proud of the sun never setting on the British empire.

  • they're organised riots. Call them what they are.

Their terrorists and should be treated as such.

  • Stella Creasy, Walthamstow's MP (Labour) had the audacity to describe these idiots as far-right activists when talking about the planned hateful riots down here outside an immigration solicitors office. She got called out for it thought, and rightfully so.

As of last night, she's revised her language and has described them as Islamophobic, and to her credit, did comment on the fact that these assholes are trying to provoke mostly young Muslim men and make them out to be the source of the problem.

A little too late though. She released that statement about half an hour before local residents (mostly South Asian and Afro-Carribean) decided to assemble and speak out how they can protect their families, properties, neighbours, mosques and the vulnerable etc. Stella showed up to the gathering and tried to make a point about how she did in fact describe them as being Islamaphobic (less than an hour before lol), perhaps to score brownie points - pun intended cos I am brown.
