  • Is there anywhere within about a 10 minute cycle from Lee Valley Velopark that will sell me a decent bag of beans?

  • That’s fair.

I worked for Costa for about 5 years, but I’ve learnt more about coffee since not working there.

Short on space and want short coffee, can’t beat a mokkapot then.

If you wanted to really save space, get a bripe

  • I think roasting shed in the Olympic park may sell beans.

  • Not too big but I guess it depends on how small you are looking for!

  • I just can't be arsed with the cleaning and prep that goes with a good machine, I know I'm too lazy to keep on top of it when I'm not being paid!

  • Anyone else switched up their ratio and found things instantly better? I've been struggling to get 1:2 right tastewise for ages. Went up to 1:2.5 and it's way nicer. Will probably try and dial back to 1:2.25 at some point, but honestly I don't know why I persevered for so long with 1:2.

  • Hand Cafe on Victory Parade should do, went there for a coffee before heading to the velodrome not long ago

  • I hear you.

I need to descale and back wash my machine.

I am loving cold brew at the moment

  • I'm still on 1kg Django a month for £21.50, and nearly every month they send round a 30% off code which makes it £15.50 for one flippin' kilogram. I can't remember the last time I had a duff batch, all tastes great in various pourover mthods to me and it's mostly been naturally processed stuff recently too.

  • I'd say aeropress is the best bet. Hoffman did a review on the devices you can attach to them which supposedly create more espresso like brews (think one was a Fellow brand thing). the outcome was you cant create an espresso but get close enough and for your use case that would seem to be close enough

  • Good call, that's really close to my office. Thanks!

  • That sounds like a good bet as well. A bit further for me but I always like to try new places.

  • Yeah I have an aeropress that I really like, but it's been well used and now only makes a good seal if it's just come out of the dishwasher. I might just replace it but I need to have a look around first and see what's on offer! We had a mokka pot but it went when we moved house. We have a pour over/v50 and a plug in percolator for other use cases as well

  • I shall look into this, it's new to me

  • Hoffman review was pretty scathing

  • Replace the seal I reckon

  • I’ve started using a mokka pot as my main method for coffee at home and Aeropress at work for cleanliness.

I use the JH method - it’s not mega strong, but stronger than filter. Dammit had a mad stovetop espresso thing I seem to remember. Pretty sure it was fairly high on the faff scale though. One of these I think.

  • Sage Bambino has a pretty small footprint; is there a lot more cleaning needed than backflushing (literally 5 seconds) and occasional descaling (I use Ashbeck water and that becomes a once a year job..)? Grinding and tamping probably doesn't take any longer than prep for the other methods, if you don't care enough about WDT..

  • do you have a code i can try?

  • I have a v60 but at times wish to make more drip coffee. Is the sage precision with the metal flask the go to option these days? Just want something fuss free and reliable for occasional batch brews

  • Same scenario here. I went for the Sage Precision Brewer and it's been great. You might want to look into the scuzzy carafe lid issue (sealed unit that can retain water and get gross) but it's not been an issue for me yet. If you don't want to live with that kind of uncertainty, Moccamaster with the thermal jug is the other popular option.

  • Can you not just use Cafiza or similar to clean the carafe?

  • You could... But the lid may then retain Cafiza-water.
