  • Ah! I mean Shoreham Kent...

  • All this roof box talk has reminded me that the roof boxes appeared in the expanse and fire fly as sleep chambers.

It is sad that I noticed.

I don't know what this means.

  • Slightly lengthen delta, would have been more interesting using the prisma body length and the hatch rear.

  • Not Shoreham by sea ;)

  • People have been chatting about borrowing roof boxes.

It reminds me that whilst watching ti TV series, the expanse and firefly that roof boxes were used as prop sleep chambers (cryo sleep chambers)

Feels like something sad, as I'm losing the magic of imagination as that sticks out like a sore thumb to me.

Think that roof boxes were used as coffins, to be blasted in to space, in star trek too

    Is that any clearer?

  • Punto replacement! Should just about be able to commute in electric mode and only charge at work.

  • Normal...who knows what is normal.

With absolutely no basis, and an sample set of one (me), I think you are going through the fear of making a mistake. Which I understand.

It is noted through my car buying past that I will go as see cars that I like check things am wear rose tinted spectacles.

Personally, if the car is a cambelt engine see when it was last changed and service life if the belt. I like to replace the fluids Inc gearbox and brake fluid. That way, in my head, I feel I have looked over the engine area and looked at the brakes and suspension. Makes me feel better.

Then again I have bought cars for a couple of hundred quid and two days later ragged them on the route national in France and have had a few interesting stories but then make sure you have break down cover.

As for when will it die, at a guess it will die when it is too expensive to fix against value if the car.

  • Sure! Is the Bellingham place "Mersh Bros"?

  • Is your commute 10 miles or less?
That's as far as I got with mine when I had one as a company car.

  • 12 each way, it’s the bigger battery version (12kWh) so I’m hopeful!

  • Just checked, yes.

  • Oh ok, sounds like you might be ok!

  • What should I be looking at for roof racks? 2017 Yaris with no roof rails.

There seems to be a wide range of prices with Cruz ones at ~ £100 and Thule ones at ~ £250.

  • Just get a Thule.

  • Second hand from somewhere.

  • Help me decide on a car:

Alfa 1.4 mito need tyres and exhaust, (exhaust is one piece so a little attack of the angle grinder) needs mot - t jet 1.4 might be fun
Mito twin air with engine lights on but mot twin air so free tax, quite like to whizz about in one
Accord estate that needs discs and pads but mouldy interior, maybe other stuff as has been sitting for a while. Spacious and boring
Mgb that needs a bit of welding.. ;) not a b fan might make a fun adventure
Mitsubishi mini SUV needing MOT. It's purple and looks like a postman pat van

    Which would you pick?

  • I've got Cruz ones, they're fine.
had the same set on two different cars now, just change the foot pack over to suit the vehicle.

  • On our golf the non Thule one let water in around the door seal. On the Thule one no water ingress, that’s me sold on them. S/H for the win though.

  • I finally regained my licence after having to surrender it last Feb on medical grounds.

I need to replace my Volvo V50 with something cheaper to run/tax/insure.
After much research I’ve settled on looking for a Volvo V40 D3 or D4.
    £0 car tax
Claimed 64 mpg urban, 74 combined, 80 motorway.

I prefer this to any of the other options as they all seem to be petrol which all tend to be small turbo charged engines which don’t last as well.

My budget is £5-7k could be stretched a little but I’d rather not.

Anyone with any knowledge of V40’s or have another suggestion?

  • I need to replace my Volvo V50 with something cheaper to run/tax/insure.

    Sell it to @Chalfie 😄

  • Nooooo. Not now.

  • Take my money!

  • Did you note down the codes? What did they relate to? Quite often O2 sensors go and cause codes. As long as there's no serious codes relating to overheating, timing errors or strange air/fuel mix, lack of boost etc. etc.

  • Think I want more than you’ve got in your budget so don’t stress

  • Made it! Now to see what it’s like in fun mode
