  • Tec Prime in W6 have replaced a couple of batteries with little fuss for me. They always want to check the laptop to see that they are ordering the right one...

If however you want to do it yourself, then

  • Work docs use a custom corporate branding font. Is there any way to install this on iPad Pro so that it can be used in Microsoft Word app?

  • Does an iPad have Font Book?

  • Apple said they could repair my laptop charging port but have now decided they can’t and the whole thing is water damaged (it isn’t). Any recommendations for south London Mac repairs? Everything works, charging port just needs to be replaced.

  • My MBA is not that happy dealing with mesh objects in Fusion 360- it does it, but it often takes 6 plus hours of thinking about it.

Is there a Mac Mini that has enough grunt to do this with a bit more vim?

  • What spec/how old is your MBA? If you have an intel chip, then the Mac mini which now has M2 chip will be much much better.

  • 2020 M1 MBA, 16GB of RAM. I’m assuming it’s the lack of graphics acceleration (relative to a more powerful machine) that is the issue with handling mesh objects?

  • Possibly a lack of graphics power. Fusion 360 requirements say M1 and 4Gb RAM is minimum, recommends M1 Max and 16GB. M1 Max is about 3.5x the graphics power of M1 and also has more graphics power than M2 and M2 pro. M2 Pro comes close though.

Think you’d only see improvement going to M2 Pro or better. You’d have to get a Mac Studio to get a ‘Max’ chip which is where the graphics really steps up.

  • Thanks. Apparently iFont was already installed and installing the corporate font was fine for use in Word. Now my issue is that when I convert to PDF it changes the font back to something default. I've tried exporting from Word as PDF, and converting by selecting file from within Acrobat.

Strangely, I can edit the PDF and change the font to the right one, but only line by line so it's a bit laborious.

    How to fix?

  • Ok, so- Mac Studio are $!, that M2 Pro Mini is just under $1,600, so the question is would an M2 Pro mini be noticeably better than my M1 MBA? Sounds like not worth it?

  • Needs more ram for any heavy lifting.
    32gb minimum ideally 64gb

  • My MBA has 16, so the Mini would be identical- bar it’s (I’m assuming) faster memory bus.

  • I’d grab a used/refurb M1 Max Mac Studio if I were you.

M2 Pro is a bit of a dud, M1 Max is twice as fast, and Mac Studio’s cooling system can handle sustained loads for eternity.

  • +1 for refurbished. Found a refurb Studio Display and went for it. It's totally indistinguishable from new, including the way it was packaged. Had it about a week and still in awe of the thing. Cheers for the reccos in here 🙏

  • I’d get the 32-core GPU version if you can.

  • If it's just for mucking about with STL files I'd try a free account with Onshape before spending thousands on a new computer.

  • M2pro Mac mini will not be a big step up but will be better than what you’ve got. As others have said studio will be where you see big improvements. What’s worth it is up to you based on things like how much ££/$$ you earn from doing this and how much time the faster machine saves you.

  • Anyone use a sim for Apple Watch? Simple google says only available on EE but nothing on their website. Is it only for existing customers?

  • I'm in the market for a used iphone, ideally a 13 but open to suggestions. anyone looking to shift one?

    Ty

  • I have a sim for my Apple Watch with Three Mobile. Got it as an additional item for £7 a month. It’s probably an add-on for most plans?

  • Would anyone be interested in buying my M1 Mac mini (Late 2020) with 16GB ram, 256GB SSD + the matching hub (like this) that has 500GB SSD, apple offered £250 for the mac, £300 all in? or £400 with Dell P2715Q. Collection only from SE6.
