  • You'll get some serious traction from Ameys insta followers that's for sure.

  • My boss has had one for a few years. Amazing thing, goes like the clappers. He has had a few minor problems with the motor, but that's just ebikes imo.

  • Do you have to use Halfords?

  • Why am I getting adverts for Spotify playlists now? Do you get money for getting people to listen to your playlist?!

  • Why are modern mountainbikes use 31.6 and 30.9mm seatpost? Such a ridiculously small difference

  • Such a ridiculously small difference

It's a huge difference compared with 27.2 (most 531 frames) vs. 27.0 (most 753 frames)

30.9 seems to have started with Specialized, and since they're 'merkins it was probably 17/32" in their heads and became 30.9 when they had to give the Taiwan factory something to work with. It's continued existence must be due to the market weight of Specialized. 31.6 is now a pretty universal 'oversize' post on and off road, but I have no idea why people settled on that rather than 31.8

  • I'd like to do a weekend or long weekend of riding gravel bikes, stopping at pubs and staying in air bnbs with some mates. Where's good for that that's easily accessible from London and Leeds?

This is going to be one of those things that relates back to old pipe standards and the ID of a particular OD aluminium tube that was in use at the time.

  • the ID of a particular OD aluminium tube

Fuck knows when people are mixing units. The tube ODs are usually imperial, so it's a 34.9mm OD (1⅜"), but it doesn't explain the odd choice of bore.

  • Yeah I do love how, in this metric world, aluminium is still manufactured (by countries that only use the metric system) in Imperial sizes nominally converted to metric. I wonder what, for example, the French make of this? 😁

  • I wonder what, for example, the French make of this?

The French used to make metric frame tubes (and metric thread BBs, pedals, headsets etc.). They stopped because nobody wanted them, although not before Ishiwata went to the trouble of making metric tubes for French builders, reflecting a time when French made was prestigious and made in Japan wasn't.

Mills make bar stock in metric sizes as well as imperial, for example 1" and 25mm are both readily available. At my usual shop, the 1" is cheaper than the 25mm🙂

  • Bumping this thread in a more popular one, hoping someone can help out before I can. https://www.lfgss.com/conversations/398330/#comment17476875

    @user158669

  • King Alfred’s Way?

  • Peak District (train into Chesterfield: Cross Country from Leeds, EMR from St Pancras).

    Edit: +1 to @rhb

(Ride the old road up Mam Tor)

  • Sounds like a good plan! Thanks. I'd love to do King Alfred's Way at some point but might be a bit far for the Leeds lot.

  • My friend's had their handlebars nicked from their bike. I've been tasked with sourcing replacement parts. Does anyone know what shifters/ brakes they would need - It's an off the peg Trek Domane AL4 (2023) - which research tells me had a Tiagra 4700 groupset.

Would these be a suitable replacement?

I'm slightly thrown by the "Super SLR brake levers for use with Super SLR brake callipers" in the description as I know the bike has disc brakes.

  • Those are for cable brakes, so it depends if the discs were cable actuated or hydraulic.

The other link shows that the bike originally came with hydraulic levers so you'll probably need ST-4725 levers.

  • Sign up to tinder? I managed an amazing amount of tidying when someone was due to come round.

Ah, not just me then. Having trades round to quote for or get work done can also impose the need for tidiness, but it's usually possible to get away with just shuffling detritus from one room to another. A date inspection requires a more thorough approach.

  • Thank you! Perfect. Much appreciated.

  • Bit of a weird one, but any recommendations for well made robust playing cards? Extra points if they have any interesting designs.
