  • No, but I’ve got some better ones!
Wheels are here, chain was fitted after this picture and I cabled one (rear) brake, so the bike is…..rideable? Should I take it for a questionably safe spin tomorrow? TBC.

  • The bike is built! And has since been BDHU-ed. Feels lovely under pedal - I think the 531/28mm tire combination is reasonably absorbent but I have some 32s enroute from a friend, so maybe that’ll make it even more cushy. 48-18 for Warwickshire hills feels about right - you folks were spot on!

Only minor pain is the rear track nuts are constantly slipping forwards in the dropouts. I’ve had a look and the nuts themselves still have plenty of ‘tooth’ left, so in theory should bite down and not move. Anyone experience this when running fixed on non-track bikes, ie perhaps just retro horizontal dropouts?

For now, though, it looks and feels complete. Now to find a 20 or 22T cog for the other side so I have an option for hilly audaxes or longer rides.

  • Skid patches... I digress

  • I’ll be honest, I have zero intention of ever skidding (see front and rear brakes)

  • Maybe see if you can get some chain tugs for horizontal dropouts. Makes you're life easier.

  • Aye yeah I was considering them. Any idea if they play well with fixing punctures/swapping a flip-flop cog?

  • I have some surly ones if of any interest. They are easy to undo for chain tensioning / puncturing

  • Go on- I’ll drop you a message!

  • Hi all
Need to replace my fixed sprocket on my road fixed bike. That’ll each me to clean me to clean it.
I have a 6 bolt disc rear hub fixed set up. So easy to change chain line to hit perfection!
Always used velo solo sprockets that were totally excellent and lasted 10,000s of km and years of all weather use, including flipping over for double life!
However I have discovered that they are no longer made!
I have bought a couple of bike punx stainless sprockets but although lovely made only last a few months.

Anyone got any other suggestions? Rather not rebuild to get a screw on fixed hub - 130mm back end and personal chain line and all that .

  • 3 months later...

    Here ya go!

When I was younger and fitter I spent all my winters on a Surly Cross Check. Loved it, but fuck it was heavy. This bike was my attempt to build a deluxe winter training bike and get back into longer fixed rides. It's so much fun.

It's a Seven. The eccentric BB keeps the mudguard nice and tight. Wound Up forks allowed a straight headtube. Wheels are Lightbicycle on Phil and SON. I like the internal(ish) dynamo routing so there are no cables running from front to back.

I'm particularly pleased with the LH dummy lever which is a gutted Di2 STI, locked out with a small self tapping screw.

  • I've actually got a few for this thread.

Here's my partner's Dolan. More or less stock but with Archetype wheels and a dynamo. This bike is such a solid commuter.

  • Here's my commuter.
It's actually quite a nice Condor, but I've done my best to make it look like a piece of shit so I can lock it up at Sainsbury's.

I'm particularly pleased with the LH dummy lever which is a Record lever locked out with grotty insulation tape.

  • And finally, I found this in my father in law's shed. Cooler than the last three put together. Delta brakes and fixed. 👌

  • What a page! Thank you for the awesome pics

  • Self tapping screw on the LH lever is genius, I am 100% doing this to mine

  • I like the screw mod to lock the brake lever.

  • I took you for a cable pull bell kinda guy

  • This seven is as good as it gets imo. Tell me those tires are tubeless (not that you really need them, with vertical dropouts)

  • Oof that was way harsh Tai

  • Late reply but how do you rate these mud guards? Do you still get lots of shit in your face from the front tyre?

  • Thank you! Yes, tubeless. No massive fails so far.

It's taken three months to get a pic because I wasn't very keen to scrape the dried sealant off the chainstays for the photos.

  • Over the years I've tried so many methods and they all fail in the end. This was really quick and is rock solid (so far).

  • No complaints from me, when I forget them I get absolutely soaked, when I have them on I stay dry unless I hit a puddle.

100x better than nothing and I don’t think I could fit anything else with that clearance. They’re the race blade pros, for reference.

  • The Stages power meter-equipped DA crankset is just 🤌🤌🤌
