I wonder what, for example, the French make of this?
The French used to make metric frame tubes (and metric thread BBs, pedals, headsets etc.). They stopped because nobody wanted them, although not before Ishiwata went to the trouble of making metric tubes for French builders, reflecting a time when French made was prestigious and made in Japan wasn't.
Mills make bar stock in metric sizes as well as imperial, for example 1" and 25mm are both readily available. At my usual shop, the 1" is cheaper than the 25mm🙂
Yeah I do love how, in this metric world, aluminium is still manufactured (by countries that only use the metric system) in Imperial sizes nominally converted to metric. I wonder what, for example, the French make of this? 😁
