  • I struggle to watch any guitar stuff on YT anymore, I'm even blowing a bit hot and cold with Uncle Larry at the moment. I've been watching Johan Segeborn more than anything else lately, which is odd.

  • Yeah I definitely think IG has surpassed YT in terms of guitar content...

    The only good YT gear show was Pedals and Effects and that stalled when Juan had his bike accident. Still the best content though and worth rewatching.

    My recent faves on IG have been as follows... first three are properly inspirational guitar stuff.
    @young_dervish
    @elijahsokolow
    @kapilseshasayee
    @johnmoreland (incredible singer songwriter, favourite album of 2024 thus far)
    @amarillohighway
    @stop.drop.rewind (good bass stuff)
    @samuraiguitarist
    @pauldavidsguitar
    @sam.krones (lush mathrock guitars)
    @simonrobertfrench (this one is a siiick songwriter who's writing a song a day)

  • Ha ha ha! This! What a pair of wanklords. Is Rob 'Chappers' Chapman still a dick? He can get in the bin too

  • Rob Chapman is the absolute worst.

  • I second the TPS rants, they are unwatchably self-indulgent at this point.

  • Recording test pt. 2, using a ribbon mic in untreated (but cluttered) basement room. This was mostly "earplugs required" volume level for me. Just listened back through my random noodling, actually thought the captured sound was pretty decent here as well — at least more so than some of my previous attempts. Chose this bit as the amp settings were close to the load box test before, just with the string reverb turned up a little.

  • Personally think this an improvement over the last one. But as ribbons soften in exactly the right frequency range for cranked amps, might just be that. Love a ribbon.

  • Johan is kooky af - i love it

  • surprised no OLA ?

    Y no chug?

  • prolly will get this

  • I also liked the mic'd sound more, might be worth the extra effort. I've used the ribbon mic just a few times so far, but it has seemed to be pretty forgiving about placement and acoustics. Which maybe surprised me a bit given the figure-of-eight pattern, but would obviously be great news for home recording.

  • The answer is 3 minutes

  • I love him. And I love how crazy he is about KISS, an unashamed huge fan. Big Soundtrack of Our Lives guy too, so you know he knows his onions. I think he's from Gothenburg like them, no?

  • Tried an Aquatone Player II Jaguar today... hard to believe it's a sub-€900 guitar. I really want one now but thankfully not in Aquatone (great colour but I really fancy the Coral Red or Hialeah Yellow) :)

  • They look nice, does the lack of random switches compared to original jags make much difference?

    Been switching between my swinger and the strat this week :)
    First impressions are good- the longer, wider neck is definitely easier for open chords with my clumsy fingers but scales and moving around are still a little easier on the swinger. Not sure how i feel about having a trem, turns out I like to rest my hand on the bridge.

    I also saw the little Fender Malibu acoustic when I was in the shop last week, some colours appear to go cheap online from time to time. Didn’t try it but looked fun for the money. Has a jag/mustang neck/scale apparently.

  • The Malibu sounds very boxy, a bit cheap, if I'm honest. I seem to remember someone on here saying they have the next size up and it sounds much better.

    Good to hear you're practising!

  • Yeah I’ve read mixed reviews about them. Apparently the more recent ones(mahogany sides and different preamp) are better than the previous version with the all-over paint job.
    No doubt there’s much nicer sub £300 acoustics out there but I’m certainly not in the market for the foreseeable lol.

    I’m mostly just setting an a minor drone note for an hour on YouTube and pootling around the pentatonic scale. That was my homework and sticking to it. In the process have worked out a few riffs from Sleep and Witch.

  • Just got home after a week of not touching a guitar. Love the experience of picking up a guitar and being immediately out of my rut!

  • On the theme of small, short scale, mahogany acoustics, I have a Guild M120 and it's a lovely instrument to pick up and play. "Smaller" sounding than a dreadnought and not as bright but I actually really like the more mid-y sound and whenever I recorded it it worked great in a mix for it!

  • Love that feeling! You think you don't know what to do with it and feel all rusty, but as soon as you pick it up it Just Works™ 👌

  • I’ve just unboxed my new Laney Cub Super 12. First impressions are that it’s going to be great, fabulous warm tone. I tried it on the 15w input and it’s nice and quiet until you go past about 2. Then it’s onwards to divorce volume. On the <1w input there’s loads of flexibility and combined with the boost gives a great tone and it’s not too loud. I’ve got a Boss BD-2 to put in front if I want but with it’s own boost and built in reverb it’s good to go.
    It’s my first tube amp and there’s no standby switch. I assume it’s switch on, wait a minute or so and play?

  • Your strat looks great!

    I just took delivery of a player ii jazzmaster and even more so after seeing your dark fretboard, if I didn't know rosewood was back I'd think this was Pau Ferro. The perils of buying unseen online I guess.

  • Congrats! Yeah, just wait 30 seconds for it to warm up. No need for a standby really.

  • I like that.
