it's too easy if one rider finishes.

I guess you are right!
But it has also been common on other ultras for the winner to take the lead early on. eg on IndyPac, Kristof blasted through the field and hit the front while we were still in Fremantle, I'm pretty sure that Mike took an early lead in his TABR, as did others like Evan Deutsch, Kraig Pauli, etc. What was unusual was when Steffen Streich threw TABR away by riding backwards near the end.
Maybe the events are getting more competitive as the standard goes up so more chance of the lead changing hands later on...?

I highly recommend not stacking your year with ultras just to find out how far you can get before you break down physically
That sounds like really good advice!

• #256
Which means that, if #hippyalwayswins, there aren't any races that are not too easy. :)

Those are for sale in the local hardware chain.
Quite interesting for the cargo with all the shit that needs to go off before tube change.
Not really tempted though.Edit, talking about them funny tubes that you can install without taking wheel off, not tubes in general.

Well, Robin has finished.

Well done RG 👏

Now now, let's not get too exuberant. It's only 4,000 hilly kilometres in seven days. It's not even all the way across Europe.

Amazing ride, that!

Almost 450k a day and easily 150k shorter route than Strasser. Motivating person.
-
• #263
Is that because he took some gravelly detours? Or just better planned?
-
• #264
Not really short, there is a 45mins shaky livestream on FB (not public) https://www.facebook.com/100012288426736/videos/428647486848195/

Didn't follow that closely, but I'd guess he did more gravel stuff.
Also Strasser did a funky loop I didn't get just before the ferry (there's a screenshot upthread) add a few of those and it adds up.
Guess it's one part in a winning puzzle to have a short route. -

Ah well, I'm going to have to content myself with pictures of some TCR finishers in August 2021, then.

What's happening? AZ had hours lead on Tim and now he almost got caught, panics and goes off the final 2k of the parcours?

Hey James, are you going to write something a bit more in details somewhere or just here?
I am fan of your writing :) -
• #272
^^ At a guess, he's probably fuxored. It's even better when you look at what's happened since. I hope he's actually ridden all the parcours now (it's not clear to me from the track), and that if he's missed out a small bit they're not too hard on him.

Ah, snap.

These have been 2 rollercoaster TCRs for Tim. Last year he was also 4th and moved a spot because of the dq/gc removal of Anatole and now this.

Those itsy bitsy parcours right at the end are very hard.
They often go through little side streets and up and down gratuitous small ramps, which really mess with your head.
In 2022 the finish parcours even went the wrong way down a one way street. What do you do? It's another decision you don't want to have to make when you just want to finish
Anyway, look forward to a short video of the low-key finish. :)
