If I take a track wheel to an lbs to fit a cog they slap on copper slip. I know time is money, but is it really that much more time/money for the person doing the work to give it a lick?
It is a thing with some cars and some alloy wheels. Mechanics and tyre places don't want to smear grease so near to disc brakes.
As to why, salt on the roads, pressure washing wheels and harsh cleaning chemicals causing increased corrosion.
