I need some shorts for a wedding (yes, that's part of the dress code, it's on a beach). All of mine are either cut off jeans or cycling specific.
What should I be looking at to go with a linen shirt? I don't want to go full linen and look like I'm wearing pyjamas. Also not a fan of chino shorts I don't think. I generally like a shorter short as well. Black would be best because then I'll actually wear them after the wedding.

I’d go navy chino with that brief, get down a TK and see if there’s any Ralph in your size.

I'm not sure I can pull off the boxer shorts look tbh.

£140! Are they sewn by hand by sirens or something?

Considering many other things linked to and discussed in this thread (and the forum more widely), £140 for a pair of shorts made by a small local company (with direct forum links) is a strange target for your ire.

I think you'd be best off braving the high street. Any shop that has men's clothes will have something suitable.

I'm currently wearing a pair of those drawstring swimming trunk style cotton shorts in very dark, almost black navy blue (midnight? blue). Short, but not mid-2010s short. They fit with a casual work shirt. I got them from F&F/Tesco the other year.

Point being buying men's shorts in summer from a shop will not be hard.

Obviously spend what you like, but any dark cotton short you wear in summer will develop a strong patina/sick fades. So other than longevity of stitching don't expect spending more will make a difference to how nice they look over time.

Plot twist, he's now changed his mind and wants us in trousers! Glad I left it to the last minute to decide on shorts.

Ask him if it's because he's self conscious about his calf definition.

Although I might get a "smarter" pair of shorts for work. I'm not enjoying sitting opposite a massive south facing window without air con at the moment.

They're the closest I've found to the Dockers shorts that I bought in the US years back.

I have a le laboureur in cotton yellow. Bit short in the arms I think I could have gone a size up.

Which I wore to a wedding and it was asseptable.
