  • Came upon someone pushing his bike today, so stopped - he'd tried to mend a puncture with his only CO2, fucked it up and had been trying to get someone to stop and lend him a pump. Said every cyclist had either waved him away or ignored him. He'd not bothered trying with me as he'd given up and resigned himself to pushing his bike home.

Seriously, cyclists don't help ourselves much sometimes. As ever, don't be a cunt, help people out.

  • In my experience, most people will ask if you need anything when you're stopped at the side of the road. I got given an inner tube by a fella years ago after I'd had four punctures on one ride, I offered to pay him for it later but he insisted on a donation to the local hospice instead.

Let's hope the guy you helped realises that a single CO2 cannister isn't enough and having either another one or, more sensibly, a pump is essential in the future.

My past experience was largely the same, but it's been many years since I've needed help, and the make-up of the peloton has changed. It was near Sevenoaks btw, maybe there's just a higher concentration of twats in the neighbourhood.
