  • Not too late to pop to lidel

  • Leatherman after sales service is pretty bloody good IME.
    Send it back to them.

  • I'd say pretty flipping good odds.

  • Isn't that taking the piss a bit , it's almost 20years old , with no shown signs of use except clanging it somehow soon after purchase... where's the advantage?? The 17 years of lost use¡

  • Bumper visit. Zero nutritional value. Went in for these and only went and bought a Sonic The Hedgehog toy, pop tarts, bbq sauce, and Frank’s Red Hot…

  • …indiscretions

  • fair enough :) , guess I do sit 1) corrected 2) on the other side of the moral fence.. but wish the best and excitedly await the outcome

  • The moral fence is a fair comment, it’s had a good life and the more I reminisce on the adventures we’ve had together, the more I think I shouldn’t be such a skinflint, retire this guy to the greenhouse and just buy another. I’ll see how I feel when I’m sober.

  • skinflint

I mean they are really fucking expensive now. Even the USD prices are high.

  • Anyone used the stones yet?

How fizzy were they when you put them in the water to soak?

  • Super fizzy on first soak, tiny fizzy subsequent uses.

I've used them and they made knives sharper. Wooden base did get a little mouldy in one spot despite what I thought was proper airing.

  • They are pricey but I reckon another would out live me if I didn’t mistreat it again. I’m a sentimental sod and realise I can’t send this guy to the smelting pot so need to watch a few videos to check the quality hasn’t taken a dive in the last 20 years.
Edit: on second thoughts I wonder if Whitby’s do refurbishment?

  • Am I missing something? All I can see is a few chips on the cutting edge.
Surely you can just re sharpen it?

  • I’ve got a few penknives which I can bodge sharpen but I’ve never had any joy with the rock hard stainless blades, I always make it worse.

  • I could sort that out in no time. If you trust me send it to me and I’ll fix it.

  • The warranty is exceptional though. I broke a blade on one and with no receipt sent it back for a replacement, under a week turn around. Wouldn't hesitate to buy another.

  • I absolutely agree. My Juice went back twice. The last one that came back didn't feel quite as nice in the hand, but they're great quality tools.

I guess from my perspective I've sent them back when broken, so I probably wouldn't buy one ahead of sending it back. And I don't see warrantying something expensive as being skinfkint or tight.

From a quality perspective, my understanding is that the main issue is that you have certain small parts which require heat treatment. Sometimes these haven't been done correctly or the design means they are weak. Those are things which have always occasionally broken, and no doubt always will.

Obvs you also have stuff that sometimes breaks because shit happens.

  • Unless I'm missing something the tool up thread needs:

    • knife blade reprofiling
    • file replacing
    • a clean

I can't tell if the flat bit pic is meant to indicate the tools holder's retention spring(?) is broken, then I'd want that fixed by leatherman.

But overall as its a torx bolt one you could do all the work yourself. In particular as Idk about others experience my mine have been immediate replacements, not repairs.

  • If you were going for a new one, money no object then the Arc seems to be the ultimate.

Personally I don't feel I need the super steel blade, so would sooner have the same thing cheaper with a normal blade. But that magnetic lock shit looks like one of the most sensible and useful Multi-Tool design features I've ever seen.

  • I’d send it back. The worst they can do is offer a new one at trade price, or refuse to repair yours for free.

  • The worst they can do

Reading between the lines, it sounds like maybe the worst for inchpincher would be a straight replacement for another refurb without the sentimental attachment.

Dare I go as far as to say some buyer validation for a new purchase 😉

  • Sad but true

  • Having a clear out and found this Lansky Professional sharpening kit and home made universal mount.

I think I only sharpend 5 or 6 knives with it.
